Well, we have just been informed that our daughter has enough credits to graduate a year early . Only problem is that we are now thrust headlong into all the "college" stuff that we thought we had another year to consider. In Brief, she wants to pursue Microbiology, and our home state university isnt really a good option for that. My husband has a job offer in north Carolina and my daughter seems to like the possibilities of UNC or NC State. Our moving there could also mean in state tuition. Thoughts about these schools programs or anything other info/ suggestions. We are stressing!

My advice would be to enter into a general biology program as an undergrad and then specialize in (some aspect of) microbiology in grad school. The logic being that general biology is a rather flexible degree to have while microbiology is more focal, you don't want you daughter to paint her self into a corner.

Most colleges have a biology department, so it shouldn't be a problem finding a decent program where she ends up. I would also suggest, however, that she finds a school that offers lots of labs.
