Accredited Colleges?
I was curious about the real difference between regional and national? Does it really affect your education or your job prospects after graduation?
Thanks

It can affect whether a graduate school will accept your degree. Some will not accept national and want regional.
I am not sure how much employers know or care. It might depend on the employer. I believe for federal jobs, either accreditation is fine.
This is a huge discussion/ongoing debate on the degree info forums (which are dedicated to online learning) - you could probably find more info and opinions than you ever wanted to read if you go there.

What do you mean "degree info forums"? Do you have specific site suggestions that I could go to?
Thanks so much.

I don't think that's correct. All accreditation is done on a regional basis. Ex. Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Middle States Association of colleges and schools, etc, etc. There are six total.
To the op, let's say you attended the University of Colorado and it lost it's accreditation. In that case, your degree would be practically useless, but you could transfer your credit to an accredited school.

No, there is national accreditation, even though regional is the gold standard.

Those are secondary to the regional boards.

Yes, national is "not as good" but there are universities out there that are not regionally accredited but grant degrees and are accepted by some employers. National accreditation DOES indeed exist and is DEFINITELY not as accepted as regional.
The OP wanted to know the difference because some colleges that grant degrees do not have regional accreditation but are accredited by bodies such as DETC. The main difference, from what I have read, is transferability of credits, though some employers will not acknowledge/accept a NA degree (such as for teaching).
Examples are : Andrew Jackson University, Aspen, Penn Foster. I personally would not recommend any of those, as I would not recommend any uni without regional accreditation b/c of the transferability of credits issue.

Ok, thanks to everyone who has helped. Another question allong these lines, does anyone know of any regional colleges (preferrably with online classes) that would accept NA credits and/or AS degree?
Thanks again
