Default Obama wants moms to go back to school...

I'm only guessing at this, hopefully someone here has the facts: is what he has going re: financial aid for moms limited to those who have underaged kids at home-- that is, those who have already raised their kids wouldn't be qualified?

The government already does this, and it is called a Pell Grant. It is essentially based on income and number of children at home. A single person with no dependents will have a harder time getting a Pell Grant because of a lower qualifying income cut off limit than a person with children at home will have, making it easier for people with dependents to get one.

Those ads have sadly replaced the "Get a $300k mortgage for $800/month" ads...

I'm guessing this would apply to the fathers as well, since the USA is against sexual discrimination? Dads stay at home with the kids, give up careers, do dishes, clean cat poop, meet with teachers and wanna go to school too

While having dependents will be factored into your EFC, Pell Grants are based on your overall need and status in college (full time/part time). A single mother is not necessarily more 'qualified' to receive a Pell Grant over a single person with no children, and in fact, they both will have an equal chance since Pell Grants are not competitive and, depending on the school, are on a first come first served basis.

But yes, they are based on income; kids at home or not. There is also a cap on the maximum amount that you can receive that, to my knowledge, is the same whether the recipient has zero children or twelve+.

Here in Maine, single mothers can go to college for free. It might only be limited to community colleges, though. I know that other states do something similar.

This country has numerous MOST generous programs for single moms. I agree with some of you as well - those ads by the O administration are stupid.

?!?!? I didn't know the presidential administration was the one directly responsible for putting those stupid ads up on the internet. Silly me, I thought it was done by scrupulous less for-profit scammers .
