I was planning on taking GRE next Saturday (11/28). Just found out that USF@ Sarasota has cancelled the master's program I was interested in & will only offer in Tampa (60 miles away). I am unable to make that drive back & forth as well as work full time. Should I still take the GRE? Was re-thinking my whole plan as they do offer a bachelor's in a related field & I already have a B.A. so my english, math, science (basic first two years would be out of the way). So freaking pissed right now.
Well GRE score is generally good for 5 years IIRC. So if you take it now and don't want to start the master's program right away then it shouldn't be a problem.

that's what I was thinking...already paid, might as well, might as well....
I would say go ahead and take it. Your situation may chance over the next 5 years, and you may find yourself closer to the Tampa campus or working different hours. I know several people that commuted to the Tampa campus from Sarasota. Maybe you could find others willing to carpool?
I work on LBK and was going to take night classes at usf sarasota. If I had a 6 p.m. class in tampa, no way could I get to tampa leaving work at 5 p.m. from the key, even making a 7 p.m. would be pushing it, that's why the sarasota campus would only work for me.

Is there any other universities within your local area that offer a masters in your field? Unfortunately, I am unfamiliar with Florida higher education as I'm in California.
Even if USF-Sarasota wasn't closing its graduate programs, you shouldn't be applying to just one school, for any reason. You should always have one or two backups and a safety school (one you are nearly certain you can get into). Just like you did when you applied to undergraduate programs.
If there are no other programs nearby and you can't relocate, consider online programs. Once upon a time, online degrees were worthless programs with little respect, but more and more highly regarded universities are now offering degrees online: Cornell, MIT, UC-Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon, Boise State, Iowa State, Penn State, SUNY, Seton Hall, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, University of Illinois, University of Michigan, Virginia Tech, Florida State, Arizona State, University of Florida--all solid universities with online programs.
I don't know what field you are planning on studying but I bet you can find another option besides USF if you look for it. Best of luck on the GRE.
