They probably aren't worth it if you're coming from out of state and aren't getting a full ride.

Otherwise, I would never recommend that anyone attend NYU, St Johns, Pace, LIU or Fordham over CUNY if you intend on footing the bill. For most of the programs, the cost at the privates isn't necessarilly going to translate into better job opportunities.

I am paying graduate school costs from my pocket.....Hence, I guess CUNY is the best bet then
I really thought the cost of the program /brand name of university will give me an edge of others. I guess that does not quite happen though

Well keep in mind that the brand name of a school usually has a brand name for a reason--because they can offer more. They'll have research opportunities and funding that other programs may not have, but...the big but is...if you don't intend on taking full advantage of that, then it won't give you much of an edge; atleast not enough to justify the 30-40k difference in price.

An MFA is a fine arts degree, so that's not what you're thinking of. You may be thinking of an MBA- if that's the case, Baruch (one of the CUNYs) has the best reputation for business.

I believe it's the MBA. And Baruch has one of the best accounting programs in the city. I'm not sure about companies that recruit there but all I have to say is that, keep your grades up and when you work hard enough, you will be wanted in many companies.
