Our kids high school English class also did the college essay thing. But I wouldn't count on much from high school guidance counselors. They don't really understand what potential careers are out there, nor what the best colleges are for those careers. Mostly they have the list of local colleges, local scholarships, and the standard few big names. But beyond that really aren't much help in the college application process.
That's why a whole cottage industry of college admissions has popped up. The process has gotten complicated for anyone thinking beyond the local schools and school guidance hasn't kept up.
It's not just about adding lost of schools to the common app or the coalition app, but tailoring your search to maximize your chance of success of both acceptance and scholarships. Unfortunately I have no information about any of these.
We did find these sites useful:
a. This is a Ed Dept site, so there is some validity to the data. But it is data. You have to do your own analysis:
https://nces.ed.gov/collegenavigator...17882#fedloans
Just enter the name of the school.
b.
https://www.thecollegesolution.com/ We did not purchase her services, but did use her website. I don't agree with everything she says, but she does have a lot of good information.
