So how long do we all have to wait til they have electronic textbooks available through these e-books, Kindle, etc.?! I think that is a natural to keep textbook costs down for students...
They could easily keep costs down by offering paperback books...aka, the international edition rather than screw us big time and sell us the overpriced hardback copies.
They need to be... don't you think? What they charge for textbooks is highway robbery. and if you want to keep your textbooks, you would just have to store them electronically - and it wouldn't take up shelf space with all those old big books.
I've had students opt to buy the online edition of certain textooks, that include a bunch of bells and whistles (pics, animations, flash cards, etc) at a fraction of the cost of a textbook.
Our kids' high school textbooks are available online and have been for years. It isn't a big jump to add college textbooks, except that they wouldn't make any money if they did that.

Bingo. In some cases there are even financial incentives paid to the school or instructor.
I would love to have electronic textbooks, they would be easier to carry
I am currently teaching a class that incorprates an electronic textbook. As some have mentioned, the book has bells, whistles, flashcards, etc. While I do like the idea, I find that it gives my lazy students yet another list of excuses to try. "My internet wasn't working. The page wouldn't load. I thought I did the assignment. Didn't you get it?" There may be some cases in which these statements are truthful, but I have no way of knowing the difference.

All my books have had electronic versions. (I started studying again 2 years ago)

ah, you're right. (I don't know if those things use special formats, etc?)
