Hi all,

My wife is interested in pursuing a masterís degree. She has a four year degree in a foreign language. Her goal is to teach at the post-secondary or primary school level for a number of years and eventually get into education administration.

My question is this: should she pursue a degree which will help landing a teaching job in the short term or think more long term and pursue a degree in education administration? Does anyone know of a degree which would be considered desirable for both teaching and education administration jobs?

Thanks for any help,

I wouldn't do either until she has a job and tenure. Very few schools will hire a teacher with no teaching experience and a masters degree, they are just too expensive for an unproven employee. Get whatever certification she needs to teach in your area, get a job, THEN get the masters--and I would then go with a masters in administration if she wants to go that route. I know in our area you have to have taught for at least 5 years before they will consider you for an administrative position.
