Great information! Thanks!

How bad is the winter there? I live close to NYC and we usually don't get very much snow here (I was hoping to go someplace warmer than here initially).

With no humidity and lots of sunshine, I think you will enjoy our rather mild winters. Yes, it snows here but it doesn't stick around. You will only be a few hours from world class ski resorts, so that's a big plus, IMO

Summer, you will indeed be pleased, as a lifelong resident I can tell you that the Winter following
9/11/01 is the only bad Winter I have ever seen, no fault of Mother Nature.

I've seen El Paso county rise from just under 100,000 people to over 600,000.

It's rare that we don't see the Sun for 3 days, regardless of season.

We are blessed with blue skies, I can count the of days in a year that I DON'T rise in the mornings to a cloudless sky, on just one hand.
The region been penned as "Under the Turquoise" sky for a very good reason.

The weather is quite remarkable, the first time you see the predawn rays of sun cast the snow on top of Pikes Peak pinkish you will know you have truly been blessed by that job offer.
Everyday starts as fresh clear skies and air.

And June?... ohh June is Chamber of Commerce weather!! It's Bluetiful!!!

Give those Long Island overcoats away to someone you don't like, pack the sunglasses, sunscreen, and head West young woman.... Sunny Days to you and your husband.

Been here a week and like it very much. I didn't mind the rain and thunderstorms very much this past week. Much nicer weather than back in New York with all the humidity. The scenary is incredible and I am in a great location in the Broadmoor area within 3 miles of everything! So far COS gets a thumbs up! Very glad I decided to come here. Thanks for the encouragement!!!!

p.s. you'll be settled in just in time to watch the Aspen turn colors.
Make a day trip to Cripple Creek/ Victor about the third week of Sept.

Of course my favorite is the Highway of Legends and the Cucharras Valley
down near La Veta, it's about a 4 hr drive, save some for a picnic, and then back...
ohhhh......ahhhhhhh.
don't forget the hot dogs, and please remember to keep your eyes on the road, as tempting as it is.

I like Colorado Springs. It is relatively conservative for Colorado (though I don't know where you are moving from), but there are pockets of liberalism (Colorado College, Manitou Springs) in the area. There are tons of outdoor activities close (rafting within a couple of hours, hiking, camping, climbing), the weather is good. Not sure about the cultural scene, but Denver is only a few hours away if you need the theater (and Denver is probably the best you're going to get between Chicago and the west coast for that kind of stuff).

I hope you took the job, found a place close to where you lived to rent, and then started looking for areas that fit your desires when you were on the ground.
