Just beware, Qwest has rebranded themselves as CenturyLink...same bad habits and bait-and-switch lowball promotional rates that morph into big bills later. Make sure you know how much you'll be paying after the promo rates vanish--especially with any bundled package that includes DirecTV (which still operates with a 2-year contract and big early termination fees).

Not to say that Comcast is a whole lot better.

I was hoping to find companies other than Comcast and CenturyLink. Any small players or locals?

Yes I like Peakinter.net as they are very fast and reliable. I think they are Internet providers in Woodland Park CO. and Colorado Springs. Their prices are really good too.

Bah! Peakinter.net doesn't service my new address in Fountain; anyone have any other suggestions for service in Fountain?

I'm reviving this thread to keep discussion in the same place.

The apartments we are planning to move to are serviced by Quest and Comcast. The person working there did not know what other options might be available. Are there other things we should consider?

About us: We are moving there for a 6 month lease and then planning to buy a house, so sign up specials work great for us since we will be cancelling after we move anyway. We do not wish to buy cable TV, and if we found a phone that plugged into a wall we would donate it to goodwill. So bundling is out.

Thanks

At this point the best offers I've seen are both around 30 bucks and come from quest (centurylink) and comcast. They last 6 months before jacking up prices. I'm leading towards centurylink since comcast has a long history of killing benign P2P traffic and if the offers are similar I'd rather not give them money. I have no love for quest either, but wouldn't feel dirty about sending them money.

It seems with quest we can pick any speed internet and the price is just under 30 a month for the first 6 months. Our lease runs out at 6 and I doubt we will be renewing, so they could charge 500 a month afterwards for all I care. If you have information about what options are best long term, I'm open to hearing that also as I will save my research notes for when we buy a house

I'm with Comcast right now and haven't had one issue. My contract is almost up and might look into peakinter.net because I would like to save a little money.

We have comcast, because when we were moving, they had an option for instantaneous hookup (we grabbed the modem ourselves and did self install). Qwest would have taken 5 days, and I can't go that long without internet.

Also, comcast offered higher speeds.

We pay 39.99/ month for the highest speed available (plus cable) - only for 6 months. We are happy with the speed of the internet. I download media, and my husband plays RPGS (simultaneously), and we have never had an issue with lag.

Where we DO see issues is with the internet cutting out....ALL THE TIME! At least once a week, and sometimes 5 or 6 times a week. It is incredibly annoying. Many times it is just the wireless, but sometimes my husband can't even get internet through his desktop. We have to unplug the routers/modem and wait, interrupting whatever we were doing. I find this unacceptable.
It really affects Netflix, also. The show will stop loading mid way through because the internet cuts out.

Their customer service is also TERRIBLE!! I was originally quoted 34.99 for this service (I wrote down all figures), was charged 39.99, and when I called to complain, I was told I was just...wrong. They offered me HD for free for 6 months, but I had to drive the hour round trip for the box. THEN, they didn't take the SD box off of our account (although they told us face to face that they would be) - tried to charge an extra $10 a month. THEN, the new box didn't work because they didn't register it properly on their end. They sent out a guy to fix it, he told me it was their fault, and I got a nice bill in the mail for $50. Everything got sorted out, and I ended up paying the correct bill (minus what i should not have been charged for), but the point is, each month I find myself spending at least 30 minutes on the phone with Comcast customer service.

So, long story short, good product, when it decides to work. **** customer service.
We will definitely consider switching to Qwest, depending on how we feel the decreased speed will work for us.

We are moving from Camp Lejeune, NC to the Springs in two weeks. I don't know whether to go with Comcast or Qwest for high speed Internet and in home Wi-Fi.

Would appreciate any comments (pros and cons).

Thanks!

I have never had quest but I do have comcast and they are competitive with their prices and they have excellent customer service.

I went with centurylink after checking that comcast was performing program throttling regardless of the content. That means if you are transferring legal files, they will still ruin your connection speed. Of course, I had already had issues before in Portland where they worked hard to keep the blazer games OFF the the tv and created large black out zones where people could not watch the games for any price. I'd consider them one of the most morally bankrupt corporations in America, but that's a personal opinion.

Centurylink's 5day wait time to install was terrible, but they won at not being comcast.
