Wow, when did that happen? I drove past the place last June. I didn't even notice anything was different. Maybe I was just not paying attention.

I was not a happy camper.
It's still there. The Corvette Club still has events there. They just had an autocross there back in October. The NASCAR stuff is over though.

Perhaps there is development slated around the track.

PPIR got bought by another track owner and he shut it down so he could move the race to a more profitable market. Very sad.

Professional sports is past its prime...no longer the growth industry needed to support another football league.

The salaries and the rent a jersey (free agency) theme have finally worked against them.

That may be the case in the NFL. It is not the case in the UFL. UFL could work in a city like Colorado Springs. It's big enough to support a professional football team. It already has a AAA baseball team. UFL is sort of like AAA Football. It's not outrageous money, though it would be expensive up front to build a home for an expansion UFL team in Colorado Springs.

Valid point.

Another reason why I believe Colorado Springs should try to bring in a UFL team is to help establish it as a legitimate front range alternative to Denver. No Colorado city will ever escape Denver's shadow, it's just too big of a city/metro area with a lot of leading attractions. But Colorado Springs could provide some less expensive alternatives. AAA Baseball games are dirt cheap. UFL games are too, especially compared to a Denver Broncos game. Bringing in a team, building them a home downtown, and relocating the Sky Sox to the same neighborhood would be a big improvement to Colorado Springs. Imagine the retail and restaurants that could spring up outside these theoretical stadiums. This would generate a lot of foot traffic and liven up an already nice downtown, taking it to the next level.

I'm just considering the possibilities again...

I apologize I was referring to the Oval. They do still have some other types of racing. I think that have a Lucas oil endorsed track that dose form extreme 4x4 stuff.
My apologies for being so limited in my statement

After taking a look on google earth, I really don't see where they'd build a stadium downtown without demolishing something that's already there. Still, it doesn't hurt to speculate and consider the possibilities. Maybe someone with a better knowledge of the area can give a better insight? I'm sure that there are some areas down there that are full of abandoned buildings that are in disrepair?
