My husband and I want to look into doing some skiing and snowboarding in Colorado Springs the last week of December, can anybody give me some names of good affordable places to look into going to around the Springs area?

There is none of that in the Springs. You need to go to a ski resort, such as Monarch Mountain, 90-120 minutes from town.

I would go to Breckenridge. It's not cheap, but you'll have a blast. It always ranks as the top 10 in North America.

It's about 2hrs from Colorado Springs. Take Highway 24 west and then go North on 9. Easy drive.

There are some deals to be had in lodging up there. I would ski two days and stay a night and have some fun.

I second Breckenridge. I have had season passes there in the past. It's 105 miles from I-25 and Cimarron in the Springs. Take highway 24. There will be a lot of people but there will be thousands of slopes to carve. The town is really cool too. Plenty of lodging and eateries.

The closest is Loveland Ski Area. It's about 90 miles and is the cheapest. Search for coupons on the internet. You can easily drive up in the morning, board your brains out, and drive home, stopping along I-470 for dinner. Weekdays, obviously, are the best for light traffic and lift lines

Monarch is the cheapest route and also it has some of the highest amount of snowfall in Colorado. So i would check out the Monarch Lodge or stay some place in Salida.

Second on Loveland. Fairly inexpensive and close. It's a fun mountain for what it is. Ski Cooper is relatively inexpensive as well, but the mountain is a little too gentle. It doesn't mean you can't have fun there though. It is great for families with kids who are learning how to ski. Cooper is certainly not crowded and that's one of its strengths. I am personally not a Monarch fan. The runs are way too short and too many people.

Don't get me wrong, I love Breck, but it is getting more and more expensive. If you are looking for a bigger mountain, Winter Park/Mary Jane is a lot of fun and is less expensive than Breck. It's about 2.5 hours from the Springs....at least that how long it takes me.
