So if you are uncomfortable addressing this issue with the kids, get some neighbors to go with you and address them politely. My guess is that you'll have better results and better relations dealing with the problem this way.

I've made it a point to get to know all of the neighbors and kids...on occasion had to confront the kids and other parents for certain problems. (thowing rocks, cussing, etc....typical kids stuff) Worked every time.

Honestly, if I seen the kids, I'd walk up, say hello and ask what they were building. Build a relationship and then point out your concerns. Maybe you can help them relocate to a better area in the open space and be a good mentor to them. Good luck!

If these were typical neighborhood kids that I didn't have as students, I would go up and talk to them. OR, if I knew that these parents were stable. But honestly, the parents suck and I can't go into too much detail to tell you how much they are just awful.

I have other former students down the street that I do talk to, I'm definitely NOT afraid to talk to kids about doing the right thing. If I was, I wouldn't have become a teacher and I've taught everything from kindergarten to twelfth grade. I just don't think these kids have the respect or courtesy to not throw rocks through my windows if they find out where I live.

As a retired principal -- and the one who often had to deal with suspensions and even expulsions -- I can sympathize with your situation. It's one of the reasons I always recommended to my teachers not to live in the same community as their students. However, you can't have it both ways. It's up to you to do something about the situation, or drop it. I don't agree with those who say you should do the confrontation yourself. This is public property they are defacing, and it should be handled by the officials.

Get a MAN with some balls and have him go yell at them. I guarantee they won't come back. I still remember some fat ******* yelling at me for fishing in his neighborhood pond when I was 13. I never went back. LOL.
Have someone that doesn't live in the area or he may find his car keyed, tires slashed, or property vandalized.
