Nice park with shade and playground?
Hi all - I live in Denver and my mom lives in Pueblo, so we often meet in the Springs. I'm looking for a nice park where we could meet to have picnics with my two little boys, preferably in a nice area, with shade and a playground. Does anyone have any recommendations?
Thanks very much!!

Monument is about halfway but I guess it depends on what part of Denver you are in.
Anyway, check out Fox Run Park.

park recommendation
If you are meeting in Col springs a recommendation is Cottonwood Creek park. They also have a Swimming pool there if you decided to go there occasionally too (It's a wave pool)

Monument Valley Park (off Bijou and I-25) has a lot of places for a small family gathering. it's one of the oldest parks in the city and has a lot of old growth trees. It's also close to Fountain Creek so it's cooler in that realm too.
If you happen to meet earlier in the day, they also have a public swimming pool that I think is still open.
But it's a good middle ground to meet up for some good family time.
Oh and even this old fart likes the playground. There's a parking lot just west of the FIne Arts Center where the playground is located.

Southern end of Colorado SPrings close to the I- Fountain Creek Regional Park. Take exit 132 and go east (west is Fort Carson). You will go over the creek and take the first off ramp to get onto 85/87, go south on 85/87. You will see a dirt processing plant there too. The park is about a mile down the road, PAST the nature center. SO MANY PEOPLE take the turn to the nature center looking for the park. Go past the nature center around the slight bend and you will see a huge park..can't miss it!! It has bathroom facilities, pavilions, a nature trail to walk, a pond, geese, open field, trees and play area.
My other suggestion is America the Beautiful Park downtown. Take the Cimmarron/Hwy 24 exit. Go east and up the hill to the light, turn south at the light and there is the park. It too is parallel to the I. It has bathroom facilities, a huge circular structure that is also a fountain for kids to walk in (you will understand the term walk when you see it), not a lot of shade yes because it is new, but does have a pavilion, and a very unique and contemporary playground. You can see the circular art fountain structure from the interstate.
That is my only advice for something relatively close to the interstate.
If you choose the Fountain Creek Regional Park, FYI--if you forgot anything or wanted to pick up drive thru, etc..there is a Walmart, fast food joints north of the park along 85/87.
Have fun and will probably run into you unknowningly occasionally if you choose either one!
