Default Toy Stores?

We've been here for almost a month. Yesterday, I finally went to check out the Chapel Hills Mall.

I was expecting a Disney Store, possibly a Kaybee... but as far as kid stuff, they only had 2 doll building stores. I came home and went online and found that there is only one Toys R Us in Colorado Springs.

Am I missing something? I did look under Toys in the yellow pages, but I found mostly hobby stores.

Where do folks in Colorado Springs find their toys? The folks I spoke to in the mall suggested I go to Denver or online. Surely there's something else local?

Are there small toy stores around here I'm missing?

The only Disney store I know of is at Park Meadows in the south end of the Denver Metro area. We aren't a big enough market for Disney to come to yet.

KB toys pulled out of C Springs a few years back. They did have a store in Chapel Hills and The Citadel but Toy R US kind of squeezed them out of the market.

Apart from Toys R Us, people shop at Wal*Mart, Target and other big box stores for toys around here. That or they go online.

BTW, If there was a Disney store here, I think it would have been at the Citadel. I never shop there anymore and haven't been there since, oh, 1997. I live on the north end so I rarely go south these days.

Oh, I take that back, I had to go pick up a boyfriend, who was too drunk to drive, from Hooters at the Citadel in 1999. Hehe. The fool called me up during a Broncos-Raiders game. Suffice to say, he's wasn't my boyfriend too much longer.

< grin >

From what I just read, neither one of you was the fool. You together may have saved someone's life.

Did everyone forget Poor Richards downtown?!! It is off of Tejon, north of Acacia Park. It is a toy store with a resturant connected to it. Poor Richards serves pizza, sandwiches, soups, lasagna, etc. In the back of the resturant part is a kids area that has books and a small play area for kids. DO NOT think elaborate, but cute. The toy store sells unique items that remind me of old fashioned toys and hard to find toys not to mention toys in general. Do not go there to find items you find at Walmart and Target, because they do not carry those items.

ToysRUs is down by the Citadel, along with BabiesRUs. KayBToys went out of business as far as I know.
Mardels has some great toys too, off of Powers.

As a mother of three, I seem to find toys everywhere. I will take Michael's coupon from the Sunday paper and use it to buy toys 50% off in there. Mardels is awesome, so is TJ Max's selection of toys. I rarely go into Toys R Us, there are plenty of other choices throughout the city.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've been spoiled in the past... since I've had kids, no matter where we lived, there were always multiple ToysRUs and Kaybee locations around. I know at Christmas I'll probably have to take a trip to Denver though for the Dora, Spongebob and Spiderman toys they'll request. The selections offered at the big box stores aren't as varied as ToysRUs and Kaybee... and I'm going to miss the off season clearance sales as well!

There also is a very neat toy store called Toy Station, which belongs to the store "School crossing". Also has a coffee place attached to it. I love love love this store! It's not very big, but I really really like the choice of toys they offer. For more information and the address check School Crossing -Your source Quality Toys and Teaching Tools in Colorado Springs and Online
btw, this store has been named "best toy store" in COS from the Gazette.

I would recommend going to Toys 4 Fun on N. Academy or the one in Monument which is 3 times larger. No joke, it's the BEST toy store around. They have created a wonderful atmosphere with a large selection of unique toys ranging anywhere from educational toys and games to high quality dolls, stuffed animals, WEBKINZ, puzzles, baby toys, Playmobil, Calico Critters and so much more. I could just keep going on and on about their selection! Its a great place to check out when shopping for the "kid who has everything". The best part is that most of their toys are from Europe so you dont have to worry about the toxins coming in from China. They do free giftwrapping for most purchases and even hold monthly contests for the kids. Great customer service too. I would definately recommend stopping by if you're looking for a great local toy store.
