The commute to Denver is going to get rough starting early next year. They're going to start the next phase of widening I-25 from Academy up to Monument and they're talking up to a 6 year completion period for the I-25 corridor so that's certainly something to consider in terms of commutes.

Nice places to live are always going to be more North in the Springs. West and North are usually nice, East has good shopping in areas, but is sparse and not well connected to the downtown area, and the South areas have a higher crime rate until you get into the Fountain suburb, which is pretty nice in areas actually.

Any place along the North end of the Academy corridor is close to shopping, and has easy access to major freeways so a commute wouldn't be a problem. Also, some areas along the Hancock Expressway are nice. I'm thinking of the little bypass strip of the Expressway that shoots off of CO-21. There's nice areas around there. It's also close to some major highways that make it easy to access downtown and is a very easy commute to Ft. Carson (Just take the Milton E Proby Parkway toward Academy south). It's also near some some areas that are being rapidly developed so even more shopping and business will be around in the next couple of years.

Both areas (Academy and Hancock) have a lot of bus stops, and Hancock has the only superstop in the city that connects a lot of main routes.

Just stay away from the Southeast Colorado Springs area.
