I am in Fountain myself, which is Fort Carson's neighboring town. We are technically 6 miles from Springs, but it doesn't feel like it with Widefield/Security connecting us. It is just one continuous flow of residential and businesses. As for businesses in Fountain, they are located mostly on one long strip on Hwy 85/87. Most importantly, that's where Wal-Mart is located. The only grocery store we have left in Fountain is Safeway (along with Wal-Mart of course). We have several fast-food resturants on that strip also. And Mike is correct, we have several bi-racial families here. Any idea where you will be living? It doesn't sound like you are active military so I am assuming you are Dod.
And yes, you are really going to enjoy Colorado Springs.

Yes we are civilian. My husband currently works for the government here in Tucson. He is a career government employee. He hasn't applied for the job yet. He will be doing that soon. I'm kind of jumping the gun here as he has to get chosen for the job. He will definitely qualify for it. So I'm not sure (if we get it) where we will be. The job is at Ft. Carson. I guess this is wishful thinking. I'm the type of person who likes to scope out the area of a job we may get. So since I know absolutely nothing about Colorado I came here. We did one big move 9 years ago when we came from Ohio to AZ. I do like it here but there is no room for advancement in the job arena.

I'm thinking we should rent first before we buy. I've been looking at apartments/homes to rent. I know nothing about where is good to rent. Alot of uncertainty but when and if the time comes I will be ready!!!

I remember Tucson heat- yuck! Not to mention the crime rate, so many people had bars on their windows!! I don't miss AZ at all!! I think renting first would be a great idea. Get to know the area, decide what school district you want, etc. Keep posting! Lynette

Default bi-racial couples??

Being from the area for a longer period of time, how do you feel that a black/white couple would be percieved and looked upon in the communities? From what i have read other places, ppl say there aren't that many african american's?? is this true? I have read some about inter-racial couples, but they all seem to refer to other inter-racial mixes, i was wondering specifically about black/white? Any insite would be appreciated.

yes, there are mixed marriages of many different races, to include black and white- all over the city. we are a conservative town, but i think this is one issue that isnt pursued here. i would venture to say a gay couple would have issues...not mixed.

I agree, we just moved here last August and really love our neighborhood in Falcon. I'm Vietnamese and my wife is part Caucasion and Filipina. Not much diversity out in Falcon like in town, but people just seem more friendly in general in the Springs area vs Cali. Our church has some diversity too. Some tend to ask me where I'm from (emigrated). When I tell them, they would say, oh I was there during the war... but that is wonderful, my wife wants to adopt, but the process is just so rediculous (at least in Cali)

I agree. As a Military child, and then a 20 year Military Member, there are very few states I have not lived in. I found Colorado, and more specifically Colorado Springs, one of the best. That is why I choose to retire here.

Default A little help please

My family and I are moving to Colorado Springs in June. My wife and I both work for the Government and we were wondering if anyone could tell us which parts of town to stay away from when we are looking for apartments. We've been trying to get out there for years and it finally happend, a little unexpectedly, any info you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
