You came for the sun? well you will have plenty of that. In Austin, expect 100 degree temps for days on end, and if you want to stay outside, wear sunscreen!! I actually haven't been to COS before. Just done a lot of research on the internet. I have a trip out to Colorado planned in September, and then another planned before I move to look for a place. I suspect that Seattle has more of a rainforest look and COS is more rocky.

I'm more liberal too. I want to stay more on the west side by Manitou Springs where it's a more liberal culture. It's not that I hate Austin or anything, but a major reason for moving are the hot summers here. Being from up North, it's a different culture down here too. It took a bit of getting used too. I'm looking for that happy medium, and the middle of the country should (hopefully) be that. The one thing I really like about Austin is the music scene, but I can always go to Denver if necessary to go to shows. Plus, open flat lands get old after awhile. I like the hill country, but hardly ever get over that way.

Great piece in today's Gazette, an interview with departing Superintendent of D20, aka Academy School District.
Article explains what makes D20 successful, some background, etc. Good reading for anyone considering a move to COL SPGS. Preferred school district is District 20, "Academy District." See local school map at: http://www.gazette.com/school_districts/
I clicked this school district link and there's nothing there..... What are some neighborhoods/areas where there are newer homes in the $250k price range? Atleast a 3 or 4 bed/2 bath/ 2-3cg.....would be perfect. Thanks! |

District 20: Academy School Dist. 20 - Welcome All Districts: ColoradoSprings.com Look in zip code 80920. Home prices in this zip are in your range for newer homes, is in D20, has low crime and great highway access to everything. IMO, can't go wrong here. Last edited by mdz; 06-30-2007 at 06:32 PM. Reason: can't link there, sorry |

I've been reading posts about CS and Canon City--very interesting. This is my first time to post. I'm recently retired, having lived in Iowa for 40 years. I'm a graduate of CSU, having lived the first 20 years of my life in Arvada. I'm thinking of "coming home" and wonder if there's a condo complex in the area that touts: single-level, two bedroom, two bath plus a "sunroom" and HOA services. Don't want much, do I?

I think CS is maybe my favorite place to live in Colorado, unfortunatly, I can not get a sales job that pays more than 30 thousand unless I want to sell cars. I think the ecconomy is not so fresh in CS. I am now moving to N Colorado, maybe loveland. I will miss not having the mountains so close. My gosh Denver is a much uglier city than I imagined. When one thinks of Colorado, you think Denver would look like a city like Portland or Seattle, with tons of trees. Now I know that its flat, ugly and smoggy. LA looks better, ironically there are more trees in LA. So if you can move to CS, I would recommend it very highly.
