I was just going to add Bashep..just as you said..homes here in the Fountain Valley area are selling fine. According to my gf who does a lot of business down here, she says the average amount of time a home is on the market has increased some, but they are selling. I guess a lot of rentals are flying around everywhere...renting before buying. You don't see a for rent sign for very long down here.
In other words, I agree..soldiers do not make that amount of money for putting their life on the line...

I am from AZ and looking to relocate to Col. Springs with the fam. I wondered if the Peyton area is too far from town. I live on the outskirts of Prescott, AZ and driving the two lane highway takes about a half hour if no wrecks, with not much to speak of in between. I really hate being that far from civilization! I would love a neighborhood that my son has a wide variety of kids to play with. It is beautiful here, but the population is too scant for me to find a career and I would like to get a larger house. You wouldn't believe how much housing is here and in Flagstaff, it makes no sense. The families have moved to other places because jobs do not pay sufficiently. It is wonderful for folks to retire. Too conservative as well, small town politics scare me!!!

I drive through Falcon (Peyton is a few miles away) and that area is growing with lots of planned communities. Check out Woodmen Hills and Merdian Ranch. They just opened a Wal-Mart in Falcon a week or so ago. It is about 10-15 minutes from the eastern corridor (Powers) of Colorado Springs, maybe 35 minutes from downtown COS and also from the COS airport.
It is pretty flat but only a few miles away the topography slopes up into the Black Forest.
The area is probably 75-90 minutes from the Denver metro.

That area is growing, all new planned communities, include shopping and services close by with downtown being 35-45 min away. There are a lot of developed areas just N/E of Powers closer to the city and in district 20.

District 20 is in the NE part of COS? What is in the NW? I heard those are the best areas? I sort of don't want the typical new development, I am looking for more of a established neighborhood with houses that have character, but not trashy! District 20 has some nice places, a little higher in price than others but still in my price range. My husband asked if there was a high turnover with families and houses because of the military families coming and going. I don't want my sone to start making friends only to see them go

My wife and I are both more indoor people...though we love going out to the city too. (but we want to live in a house in a safe area) We don't like outdoorsy type stuff...so...are there any places near Denver or Colorado Springs that might fit us?

Here be a map:
Interesting piece of Trivia: Lewis Palmer District 38 is the result of the 1948 merger of Lewis District 33 and Palmer District 5.
33 + 5 = 38.

Hi everyone....first time on this site...looking to move to Colorado from CA. I am looking to buy 35 or more acres east of Colorado Springs or north east of Denver area. My concern is the possibility of the "Super Slab". The latest info I know of is it is on hold. Does anyone know any more updated info. I would hate to build my dream home to have it taken away from me. Thanks

Here is all the information you might need, this site gives you maps of the proposed path. It is on hold, but I think it will come some day, I live in Yoder and we are far enough south it shouldn't affect us. I hope this helps.
Front Range Toll Road or Highway Robbery?
