We rented a beautiful 4-bedroom (about 3,000 sq ft) in the Stratmoor Hills area for $1,000/month. But we knew the people we were renting from, so we got a bit of a deal.

Default where to live near Carson

Hello! My husband and I are being stationed at Ft. Carson in February. We have been looking online at houses for rent or possibly buying in the area. Any advice whatsoever about neighborhoods/surrounding cities will be very helpful. We're planning on taking a visit up there in the next few months to scope out a place to live. Thanks ahead for any tips!

Try Affordable Fremont County This is south of Fort Carson around 40-45 miles from Colorado Springs. Small, good schools etc. Less expensive than the Colorado Spring area. With all the troops that are coming into Fort Carson, housing could be a problem, they say. Canon City is really promoting to the troops. Yes we have always had a number from Fort Carson families that have come here to live some after retiring stayed and still worked up there. Especially if they were not city or larger city people. It is a beautiful drive.

Hey Nadine, Thanks for the info. This area looks beautiful! However, we are wanting to be a little bit closer to Carson since hubby is going to be driving there everyday. We will keep this is mind though. Thanks!

There are some new builds south east of COlorado Springs that would make an easy commute. They have incentives going on and you could probably get a good build. The communities down there are:

Claremont Ranch-Richmond is the builder
Sierrra Springs-Richmond is the builder
Falcon Terrace at Springs Ranch-Richmond is the builder
Countryside (Fountain) Journey is the builder
Silverhawk- Today's homes is the builder
Heritage in Fountain- Today's Homes is the builder

These are just a few of the builders.

I figured he would be. But it is not uncommon for many to do it everyday. Some car pool. I don't know where you have lived or are living but this is not a high traffic drive altho a winding road, not high speed. Only takes about 30 min. to Carson. There are are great number of apts near Carson, and there are some towns on the east side of Carson. I have no idea the price of housing in them. I know Colorado Springs is expensive housing. Base housing is a long wait, I am told. I think you will like the area that Carson sits in. Very beautiful scenery to the west.

I would also add Spring Creek to your neighborhood list. It's not the typical cookie-cutter neighborhood that has seemed to take over the country. See Neighborhood Photo post for pictures. Housing includes, townhomes (new Today's Homes and some 1-5 year old Beazer townhomes, condos, and single-family homes (Pulte, Today's Homes, Beazer and John Laing). Great access to I-25 and short commute to Carson.

The north end of Pueblo West would be an option for you as well. Two of my cousins live out there now. I live on the south side (south of Hw 50). This is an area that seems to be exploding and it will take time for local businesses to follow suit, but it is inevitable.

If you live on that north side, you just take Purcell up to MM 108 on I-25 and you'll be about 20 miles or less (at 75 MPH) to your destination.

As far as renting goes, one of my cousins rents homes somewhere in the Pueblo area. I don't know if they have anything in that part of Pueblo West, but I could check if need be.

Good luck however it goes.
