Cottonwood Hot Springs in Buena Vista is also about 90 miles - 2-ish hours away.
Check out the recent excellent article in the Denver Post, with a great list of Colorado hot springs:

If the OP drives in from California, she could come in via I-70 and spend a night at Glenwood Springs to use the hot pool. Could also come in via AZ, swinging by the Grand Canyon, and then up through Durango, Silverton and stop at Ouray for that spring. May not be feasible on the trip, but if time permits it could make for a nice trip.

We will be driving from California via Phoenix, so we'll look into stopping at those hotsprings on the way. Thank you!

There is a pool in Salida ...a few hours from Colorado Springs.
My wife is a detail person. She does not fully understand the phrase "clothing optional" for women. Do women only remove their tops or also their bottoms and are there people completely in bathing suits?

Clothing optional means that you can be completely nude if you so choose. You can also choose to wear your suit. Most clothing optional developed springs give that option after a certain hour, usually after 9 or 10 pm.

All the places mentioned are good (and close, by Colorado road-trip standards).

IMHO, Mt. Princeton is great only when you can sit in the river (a wonderful experience) ... otherwise the pool is like being at the YMCA. I like Cottonwood Hot Springs because it is more adult-oriented and quieter (usually). Kids are allowed, but are expected to keep the noise levels down.

If you're up for seeing other parts of the state, Strawberry Park Hot Springs in Steamboat Springs is a great spot: Strawberry Park Hot Springs | Welcome to Our Natural Hot Springs

It used to be really laid back and casual (read:rustic) 20 or 30 years ago, but my understanding is that is has been "upgraded" and improved ... I have not been there since the improvements were made, but the fact that it's out in the woods makes it appealing. Used to be able to camp there, too. Well, the website has all that information.

Default Hot springs near Colorado Springs

Cottonwood Hot Springs , 6 miles west from Buena Vista, is in the neighborhood of Mt Princeton, nicer than Mt P and Glenwood. 5 pools for soaking and relaxing, not for swimming, though, or splashing. Watsu sessions are offered there when there is a therapist, as well as massages and other therapies. There is a lodge for rooms, and dorm room for women only and one for co-Ed, and also campsites for tents or Campers. Soak til midnight w day pass or all night if staying there!
