As I prepare to buy a townhouse I want to do some comparison shopping on furniture.

I am somewhat middle of the road -- don't go for the cheap or the expensive. Looking for moderately priced furniture stores.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Well, American Furniture Warehouse has a pretty large selection. Some people love them, some people don't. Just off I-25/Fillmore.

AFW is the standard baseline store here, they have some decent stuff there but they definitely err on the cheap side. They have just about everything and their prices are great so it's a good place to at least browse around and see if that perfect item is there for you at a low price. If you're looking for really high-quality furniture, you'll have to go to the typical upper-end box-store places like Ethan Allen, Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel... etc... I don't know of any independent fine-furniture stores in COS but I know they're out there.

AFW is awesome for low prices and good functionality. We've had high end stuff from Thomasville before, great stuff, but not everyone wants heirloom quality stuff to leave to the kids someday. Not to mention that people's sense of style changes over the years, same for industry styles, etc. You can get some great deals on Thomasville or other primo stuff via Criaigslist, for about a third of brand new, especially if you look in the Denver listings as well as the local. I'm in my 60's now, and won't spend the bucks it takes to buy "lifetime" quality in the autumn of my years.

I'd hardly describe AFW as 'awesome', unless cheap and brown is awesome to you. It is highly useful though, if only for a baseline of comparison. Also, if you're looking for something mainly utilitarian but not used, AFW is pretty ideal for that.

Furniture Row is okay too - Sofa Mart, Oak Express, etc.

Furniture Row: Home of Sofa Mart, Oak Express, Bedroom Expressions, Denver Mattress Company and Furniture Row Outlet

I bought most of my furniture at AFW and I have no complaints. The couch was the best and so was the mattress.

Macy's in Chapel Hills Mall also has furniture. And there are a bunch of furnture stores on North Academy near Vickers. Woodley's has some nice stuff sometimes.

furniture shopping in springs is the opposite of fun. not just that most of the stuff is pretty low end (afw, furniture row), but the styling is either very 90's or else southwestern. think puffy overly stuffed couches, highly ornamental head boards.

drexel was a mid to high end store that is now closed. i'm saving up $ to goto room & board in denver. simple lines, quality hardwood, and real american-made furniture. think the style of ikea with real hardwood instead of particle board.
