Hello all,

I am looking for a bank that suits my needs here in Colorado Springs. So my question is which bank do you recommend?

I am looking for a Free Checking account, as simple as that. I really don't know if this is real to ask or expect from a bank, but I am looking for a more reliable bank that post/reflects all transactions as soon as are they made, bill pay is faster and finally doesn't have any hidden/unexpected fees. I hope this makes sense.

I already tried Ent and Wells Fargo and they didn't work for me.

Any suggestions?

Did you talk to US Bank? Do you want a smaller local bank?

If you don't mind me asking, what was wrong with Ent? I have several accounts with them and have never had a problem.

In fact, Ent was first to alert me that my debit card had been skimmed. I was able to get my stolen money back from Ent with no problems. I've been very happy with them, plus they have locations all over town.

I have Wells Fargo, and have had them for over 7 years now, what exactly is wrong with them? The only issue I have with them is that they charge you $2.50 for using a non-wells fargo ATM. Other than that, they've been VERY good to me. My checking is free, so long as I have direct deposit.

As I have moved from Virginia to Thailand to Colorado, I haven't seen a heck of a lot of difference between American banks. But here in COS I am using USBank.

I've been with ENT for 12 years, and they've been nothing but great. Free checking, free ATMS at all 7-11s and great customer service. I've had a car loan with them and they hold my home mortage. And I love the fact that they are local to Colorado. I'd be curious to know what problems you had with them.

Years ago I had a Wells Fargo account and I left it because at the time there were fees for everything left and right. I use USBank now without any fees except non-bank ATMs, which I don't use anyway under normal circumstances, and overdraft fees.

I have Pikes Peak Credit Union but don't like how they lack in technology. Sooooo wish I could deposit checks from my smart phone. But no one can beat them for auto loans, which is how I ended up with them in the first palce.

I don't see how you can be picky with a bank when you just need a checking account.

I use US Bank. They have branches all over the West and have really good online banking. I can make deposits online, and they coordinate wonderfully with my Quicken. I've been able to personalize my online options to give me alerts on all my accounts for many different account activities. We used them at their branch at Garden of the Gods, and we use them here in Tucson. Their customer service is also very good.

If you can join Navy Federal (even if you don't qualify for membership you can get membership from someone who does) it may be a good option for you since they have a local branch. We love USAA and recommend it to anyone who can join (you can check your eligibility through the website, again you can join if someone in your family is eligible) and don't mind that they don't have a branch here. With free checking, rebates on ATM charges, deposit through mobile phone app or by computer/scanner, etc. and the best customer service ever it's a great value.
