What company do you use for decent and affordable insurance (without a huge deductible)?

I'm self-employed w/ family of 4 and my experience over the past 12-18 months is that the "ideal" you describe does not, sadly, exist. We used to be able to dodge and weave, changing companies annually to miss the inevitable 30%+ annual rate hike sledgehammer, increasing deductables, performing reverse-voodoo rituals over early-elementary children in hopes they'd avoid picking up the various school-borne sicknesses and require a doctor's visit, etc. etc. All the usual stuff. Seems like ever since the "affordable" health care act passed, premiums are just brutally high all across the board and you simply do not escape, regardless of effort.
Traditionally, we've used
Health Insurance - Find Affordable Health Insurance Plans and Buy Medical Coverage Online as a tool to compare premiums, companies, coverages, etc. What it told me the last time I checked (couple months ago) was to just shut up and take it, whether I liked it or not, and try to think about something else.

I have a high deductible plan with Humana. Being self-employed, if you choose a high deductible plan you can take advantages of HSAs, you might want to look into that. If you're generally healthy, you can come out ahead that way.

If you contact an independent health insurance broker, its the easy way out. I did that and I was provided with a large spreadsheet with available plans, pricing, etc. Supposedly the rates are published, so going through a broker does not incur a higher cost, plus they are somewhat knowledgeable.
