Sorry to hear about the layoffs at Dell. Maybe the military will still take you.

Ryank9freak mentioned an abundance of auto mechanic jobs - it also appears that COS has an abundance of RN jobs - at least at memorial hospital. I applied online and they called me like 10 min later - although in terms of hospitals that isn't always a good sign.......

Can anyone give me the inside scoop/general reputation on Memorial and/or Penrose health systems? Thanks!!

Duh my a$$. Tell that to all the people on here who ty to act like Colorado Springs is flawless.

This is good stuff. You guys ought to be grateful that there is this much activity on this thread. I'm starting to learn that even the bad pub is good stuff. I used to hate threads like What's the absolute Best/Worst places in Colorado threads and this one. But then you get guys like Live and Jazz to come in and set everything straight with the facts and the bigger overall picture.

It's obvious that R9Freak is gonna defend his turf. I would too. This America People! For God's Sake! It's all good! It's also obvious that CS Ghetto is overall burnt and needs to travel. Maybe up to somewhere like Denver and maybe somewhere vastly different like East of the Mississippi.

I honestly think that I could live anywhere that I'm at. That sounds stupidly obvious, I know- but it's an attitude. I live in Southern Colorado because I can! It's not near as cool as Denver and Colorado Springs, but I can visit there. And in short order. I just spent 3 days with 68 of my friends from Denver on a retreat this last weekend. That's why I'm so calm and mellow now. I wish it would last. When I'd left, I was locked out of City-Data for three days. I left in shock and came back not caring.

We feel as though we HAVE TO defend our turf. Let them say what they'll say. It will all come out in the wash. Colorado Springs is bad-AGHGHHGHGSS little City. It does rock. It rocks because you people are there. How could it not?

My town rocks because I'm here. Heck, my town only has like one Bada Bing and I've never ever even been there. When I live in unincorporated Adams county, there was so many clubs up and down Federal there and over on Pecos, there were/are three that were very noteworthy. To be honest, I think it was 14 years ago when I had to go to one of those places. It was the Caberet and I was the designated driver for the Bachelor party. It's weird being in those places sober. After a while, I was just sitting back having a sprite and this girl comes over to talk to me. Other than being shirtless, she seemed really nice and otherwise "real"-ya know what I mean? She knew I was married and was just killing time in there.

Now that's Excitement! I'm 40+ now and I'm glad that you actually do grow up and out of that if you want to. Alot's changed in 10 years. When I was 30, drunk or sober-I was the Man of the Hour, The Life of the Party-Straight Up Rock Star! Now I like the sound of a trickling creek over airplanes and sirens.

You can get that in Denver for sure. You can get that in Springs, but you have to have a little patience. Hey, those rowdy military dudes (and I'm sure they're not all out to tear it up) will raise the bar. Raise the bar for the folks who want some excitement. Heck, Colorado Springs is big enough that it should have some flavor. If a town didn't have a ghetto, wouldn't it be an army barrack or a communist state? Kids (in my family, you're called a kid until you turn about 68) need somewhere to have fun and blow off some steam. In Denver, they do that on the fringes of unincorporated's. I don't know how they'd do that in El Paso County without steaming up the "more mature" family oriented folks. Heck, nobody wants to drive down Austin Bluffs or Nevada and see their Priest parked at the Bing. It's just not good business.

So you want to live in Colorado Springs and take in the scenery, have the outdoor life, and the culture, and the party life, and no crime? Hmmm.

And then there's Ryan complaining about the lack of strip clubs. I'll bet there's a real shortage of brothels and cockfighting arenas, too.

Just confirms that I can't wait to move there!
I don't know why, but I laughed for like 5 minutes after reading your post. Yeah, I'm looking forward to the move as well......

Oh, BTW CSisaGhetto, "You're Welcome". I think somewhere in that rant there may have been a thank you to the military members that have defended your rights of free speech, movement, etc.

I always love how all military people get lumped into the rowdy, drunk, and uneducated crowd instantly.

If so, I need to get started on my rowdiness and drunkenness. I think I'm pretty well screwed on the last one, though.

Strip-mall heaven: every corner has a money loan store, cigarrette store, some fast-food joint, cash your paycheck, pawn shop, insurance.

Too conservative...most people who aren't conservative stay hidden in there homes.

Stay away.
1. This state ain't called the "every 5 minute weather" state for no reason. Yeah, welcome to COS, this isn't Florida.

2. This is a very spiritual state, and I have nothing against it.

3. Yeah so, a lot of people here find that convenient. However, liquor stores are common a ll over the state since grocery stores ain't allowed to sell Alcohol.

4. That depends on the part. I live near Old CO City, it's very liberal up here. But I would agree that the city is in general very conservative. And us liberals don't stay hidden, we just hang out in other parts of town.

5. I respect your opinion, but if you don't like it here, then you can just leave, this place is getting to crowded anyways. However, if you moved to the southeastern USA and had to live in that "either hot and humid or cold and dry" climate, you'd run right back to COS. That's pretty much the reason why my mom (native of East Texas) moved here.

I think the important lesson here is to find somewhere you can be happy. I believe that some people in here will do that eventually. When they do, they will wonder why they put up with things they dislike for so long.

However, a new national past time of complaining and griping is coming along and some people just enjoy being negative. It's the "I have it worse than you do" game.

There are things I don't like about COS, but it is by far the best place I have lived so far. Focus on the positive and try to remove as much negative as you can. You only get to live life once, so you might as well enjoy it.

Actually, many of the fundamentalists there equate the word "spiritual" with "Satanic." When I lived there, one of them warned me about Manitou Springs because she thought that Manitou Springs was "full of devil worshippers."

I'm still chuckling about that.
