You might check in the Classifieds of the Pikes Peak Courier View newspaper in Teller County. Their offices are on Hwy 24 across from Wal-Mart and right before Walgreen's. They often have several ads for cordwood.

Is Oakland CA too far away?

In all seriousness... each year I have large Oaks that topple in the storms... use to cut, split and stack it and later give it away.

Since the area where I live prohibits wood burning on cold winter nights I can't even give it away anymore...

Sometimes it is easy to forget there is a whole another country on the other side of the State line.

So much for renewable resources.

I never heard of such a thing. Is this a county law?

Yes. go to a USFS office, buy a $10 permit and go up to The Hayman burn area. You can take as much as your heart desires. Don't be afraid to cut and split your own wood, it takes some work, but it's 1000% cheaper.
