He was also a really sweet man. We shopped at the same grocery store and he would always take time to talk to the kids and everybody else.

I have a handicapped son who is also a sports junkie and Lee would just chat sports with him. Made my son feel very special.

Default Good bye Lee

Wow. I am in shock. This has hit me hard. As many of you know I am a life long Puebloan and he has been the sports caster on Channel 5 for as long as I was watching the news. On top of that since Pueblo is not a very large city, like Denver, I knew him outside of the news from the Boys and Girls Club, he did work for them, and the Sangre De Cristo Art Center as he was at many of their galas sometimes as the MC. He was not only a sports caster but a pillar of the community. The news and Pueblo won't be the same without him. Thank you for all you did for Pueblo and southern Colorado.

Here are some of his awards and accomplishments listed by KOAA:

-Colorado Broadcasters Association and Associated Press awards for our "Dream Starts Here" Olympic profiles.
-Inducted into the Greater Pueblo Sports Association Hall of Fame in 2005 (only the second broadcaster ever inducted - the first was KOAA's original sports anchor Ross Beatty)
-Named best southern Colorado sportscaster by the readers of the "Pueblo Chieftain," 2006
-Twice named Best Local Sportscaster by the "Gazette"
-Named Best Local Sportscaster by the readers of the "Pueblo Business Journal," 2001-04
-Named Best Local TV Sportscaster by the readers of the "Colorado Springs Independent," 2007 - 2008
-Colorado High School Athletic Directors Outstanding Media Coverage Award, 2004
-Outstanding Alumni Award from the CSU-Pueblo Mass Communications Department.

I can't imagine KOAA without Lee Douglas. He was such a long time member of the KOAA family and had such incredible sports knowledge. This reminds me of many years ago when sportscaster Harve Holliday died. That was a total shock as well. My thoughts are with Lee's family and his colleagues.

What a personality Lee had! He made watching sports so much fun. He was proud of all the kids and presenting them with the "Loaf & Jug," award was his pride and joy.

Too young, and way to special to leave us. My heart goes out to his family and to the communities of Colorado Springs, Pueblo and southern Colorado What a guy, some people touch our lives in such a special way.

LEE, YOU WERE ONE IN A MILLION!! THANK YOU, YOUR SMILE AND HUMOR AND JUST BEING YOU WILL BE MISSED!!

I was just looking at KOAA's Facebook page and there must be a couple of thousand comments, all of them very sweet.

They did a wonderful tribute on the news last night, not a dry eye in the house.

Southern Colorado sports will never be the same.
