I was told the PD there had a pretty good variety of volunteer opportunities too. I have been a volunteer here in California for a PD for 7 years and not sure I want to do it again there, but definitely want to get involved in something to help out.
I volunteered for CSPD for several years. They've got a great program. Lots of variety. I think the El Paso County Sheriff's Office also has volunteers. And I second suggestion about firefighters. Falcon has both reserve and volunteer. If you are a reserve, your time goes toward a retirement plan. Other agencies may be similar.

With all the flood damage in the area, I'm sure there are plenty of park and trail organizations that would love to see volunteers step up in trail maintenance and rebuilding efforts.

Yes, they are always looking for trail work volunteers. If that interests you, the Trails and Open Spaces Coalition is a good place to start: TOSC | Trails and Open Space Coalition
