Colorado Springs is a somewhat conservative city, true, but living here for a gay couple should not really be a problem. I have a relative here with a same sex partner and they have not had any problems that I have heard about. I know they have gay pride activities here like in other cities, too. Those who said the Old Colorado City and Manitou areas were probably right in that they might be the more comfortable areas for you, but I think you will be OK most anywhere. I wouldn't get too worried about the religious right, most people pretty much mind their own business here.

In my post, I was attempting to assure the OP that most folks I've encountered out here seem to be like me... just because I don't agree with a person's lifestyle choices, doesn't mean I won't "tolerate" it. Many posters on this forum lead others to believe this is an intolerant, hate filled area. I am not filled with hate because I don't support a lifestyle I don't agree with. My "predjudice" may be that I haven't known many gay folks, with the exception of one or two that I didn't like personally, combined with the teachings of childhood. My primary goal in life is to teach my children to be better than I am. I feel I am succeeding in that arena. That doesn't mean I'm a perfect parent, or that my kids are perfect. But I've taught my kids that love is love... gay people have come up as my son is in a class with a child who he says, "He has 2 mommies, but no daddy...is that right?" My response was that his friend is lucky to have 2 parents... so many kids don't have that these days. Then we went on to how families come in different forms, and a discussion of the different family groups within our own extended family. He accepted that lesson with grace. Someday his questions may become more specific. I'll deal with that when it comes.
We used cat fur to open the discussion how "silly and stupid" it is to judge a person by the color of their skin. We have cats with very different fur, so it seemed appropriate. I suppose some of you will think that's wrong too. "Tolerate" seems like a such a fancy way of saying, "Live and let live". I live in Briargate, by the way. |

sskkc, I want to commend you on your second post, it is very important to be tolerant, that is all that I wish for in this world. Live and let live is the perfect motto. Your original post just came across as very condesending, I love your response to your childs question. You are so right, the child is lucky to have 2 parents (two partents same sex or not are better than one parent) no offence to single parents, that was a very good way to handle that situation. We all in this world have to co-exist, as you say "live and let live" and love one another.
Good Day! |

Yes, and if you are gay, please don't move into my neighborhood. Some things I prefer to remain ignorant of.

Visit the website for State Sexual Offenders and discover who you neighbors are....then tell us where you plan to move since you'll no doubt be 'intolerant' to live in your present neighborhood.

I make no apology fo my intolerance of deviant behavior. If you practice sexual perversions I ask you to stay away from me and my family.

In his book Bringing Up Boys, Colorado Springs icon Dr. James Dobson makes a good point about how those pushing deviant agendas capitalize on this liberal idea that tolerance...the "T" word...is some kind of worldly virtue. Schools teach tolerance to our children like it was part of the Constitution. It's neither part of the Constitution nor a virtue in the absolute.
When a person will tolerate virtually any sort of pestilence, villainy, or depravity around them, we have the makings of anarchy and chaos. Welcome, then, to Caligula. |
