I grew up in the springs and found that for the most part people are relativly indifferent to these issues. It's mostly the religious fanatics in leadership positions (i.e. dobson, mayor rivera) who use their political power to grandstand their position on issues, who set a bad precendant for the rest of the city making it seem like a haven for intolerance. Honestly I do not think you'll have a problem in the springs if you can ignore these idiots. The majority of the people here aren't concerened about wheter or not your partner is same sex, as long as you're good parents. In terms of location, ive always found the west side of I-25 from garden of the goods down and up hwy 24 through manitou springs to be the cultural center of the area. The rest is mostly sprawl, but overall its a good community to raise a family.

The OP asked about welcoming same sex couples. It is an appropriate response to the question. There are many communities that welcome gays, such as San Francisco. I personally do not welcome gays into my community. It is not a political issue and for me it is in no way controversial. It is my firm opinion. Your opinion is obviously different.

Has anyone noticed that the original post came from last year and never posted again? I believe you can drop the subject because Pammy is not paying attention.

I agree...this is definitely one of those "hold your nose" topics.

I would guess she left the posting in horror because of the viciousness and hostility expressed here by certain people. I'm not gay and I don't live in COS but some of the comments expressed here make me deeply ashamed to even live in Colorado. How hate-full we must seem. All people are human beings and deserving of the same respect and dignity as anyone else. Nobody can change their sexual orientation and anyone who thinks gays choose their lifestyle is just sticking their head in the sand. Why would anyone "choose" a lifestyle that makes them the target of violence, hatred, intolerance and even death? When did it become okay to tell people who they could love? What happened to the concept of Love Thy Enemy?

I don't feel anger right now, I feel deep sadness.

Another ploy of those pushing deviancy is to characterize any disagreement with their agenda as "hate" or the lesser imperative of "fear." It is possible to disapprove of depravity, to shun association with the depraved, without "hating." And an active distaste of the behavior, or those who partake in it, is not fear--it's dislike or revulsion, quite a different thing.

Part of the conservative masses' problem in effectively confronting immorality and depravity is allowing the deviant movements to define attitudes and behaviors on their own terms. According to them, a same-sex couple is not "homosexual," they are "gay." Those who despise homosexuality and its concommitant behaviors are not referred to as "anti-homosexual," but rather as "homophobes" (possessing a fear of homosexuality). It's a mischaracterization that we conservatives allow them a pass on, and we should stop that.

I am anti-homosexuality...I strongly disapprove of homosexual behavior and choose not to associate with those who I know practice or advocate it. I also choose to live in a place where many other people are like-minded in that regard (Colorado Springs). That's not vicious or hateful, but it is honest and it is my reality. If that makes someone sad, so be it.
