Question hang outs

I discovered Cy's Drive-In (on Uintah at 23rd) quite by happy happenstance. I chanced upon BJ's Velvet Freeze (on Union at Palmer Park) while looking for more affordable homes with mature trees on quiet streets after oggling the Victorian houses downtown. I love the guacamole burgers at Cy's, the peanut butter shakes and twist cones at both, the atmosphere of Cy's, the variety on their menus, the casual friendliness. Knowing that this is "my type, budget and speed", what similar establishments could you recommend?

Also, sometimes I want to meet potential new friends (sisters, not sexual) so I'm also looking for quiet cafe atmospheres so we can hear each other, perhaps with outdoor seating as well. I have two tag-along kidlings whose needs and preferences must be considered. I prefer places with antiques and books, they prefer playspaces. I like homey types with a few well-chosen toys or an environment for make-believe play over the boisterous excitement of the major franchise chains' playspaces. Do you know of any such type of establishment in the City that meets those criteria?

Try looking in the area of Old Colorado City. We found a good little place, Front Range BBQ, that is "real" and has bluegrass music some nights. Should be great when the weather warms enough to sit outside Friday nights and listen.

Default Places to hang out

If you like books, try Poor Richards downtown on Tejon. The ultimate fun/make believe spot is in Mr. Biggs, just off the freeway. They have "Little Big Town". Whole town with shops, props and activities. They could be there all day and you might even find some other moms needing a sanity break!
