Default Moving in 3 weeks to COS have a question about an area

Hello all, my family and I are relocating to COS in approxomately 3 weeks. We have narrowed it down to 2 houses to rent for the year before we buy (since we are currently in the process of selling our home here in Florida). One of the homes is north of Pete field in Cimarron Hills and the other is in Stetson Hills. I know that Stetson Hills is probably the better choice but we have friends that live in the springs and have told us that the Cimarron Hills area is good as long as your east of Powers Blvd. I grew up in Orlando and know what a real ghetto looks like and have been warned to stay out of the immediate east, southeast and portions of the southwest parts of town. I just need to know if Cimarron Hills is good enough and safe enough to live in for a year until we buy a house. I have looked at crimestop.com and there really isnt anything around the Cimarron Hills area we would be living (but the Citadel Mall down the road is another story!). Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

Erich

I think it is good enough. It varies a little street by street but I have family there and they've never had any real problems.

I don't know much about Cimarron Hills but can say that I enjoy living in Stetson Hills. Been here for 7 years...great neighbors, lots to do and easy access to pretty much everything.

Good luck with your move and let me know if you need any help!

If all things are equal, I'd pay more for Stetson Hills. If you have kids, then definitely Stetson.

Stetson is newer but there are things I like about Cimarron Hills better. If you're thinking about schools, though - you can choice in, but if you want your kids to take the bus to school then yes, there are some things to think about. But since this sounded like a short term thing potentially anyway I do think Cimarron Hills is well within the acceptable range based on what you said.

We live in cimarron hills right now (also renting temporarily). We are right outside Pete's north gate. The convenience is very high. I don't mind living here at all. Some streets are somewhat run down - not 'ghetto', but not beautifully landscaped. Some streets are very well kept.

We are saving $500/month while we live here. We were also going to rent further north, in springs ranch, and we would have been losing about $50 a month. I am happy with our decision.

Before you decide on Cimarron Hills, do a little research on the Cherokee Metropolitan Water District as it relates to that subdivision.

My son lived in a house there, and the water district problems were sheer a**-pain.

I believe Stetson is on the Colo Springs Utilities municipal water supply--much better IMHO.

Bob and I rarely agree, but we do on this. That should tell you something about how seriously you should look into this.
