It takes about 10-30 minutes to get to CS from Fountain, depending on whether you're going to the south side or northern-most areas. I think Fountain is plenty close to anything in the Springs. The Fountain school district is good and gets tons of military funding, so its budgets are considerably larger than most others in the region, if that matters. Some of the districts in northern colorado springs are probably a little more highly rated but are also less diverse - depends on what you want.

Fountain butts right up against Sec/Widefield which butts up to Co Springs - it's all one sprawl. On the north end of Fountain (Mesa Ridge Parkway) are newer commerical spaces with the Safeway, Pizza Hut, Little Ceasar's, Culver's, Lowe's, McDs, Subway, a Chinese place, Toxic Hell (Taco Bell), about 4 different dentists, Fantastic Sams, a Dollar Store, banks, Kiddie Cutter's, a frozen yougurt place, a BBQ joint and more being built as we speak. I will also shoot up 85 to hit Target or go see a movie at the Tinseltown. There are a bunch of restaurants there too. You really aren't as far from the Springs as you might think.

You're minutes from the airport - we rent in Fountain (in the Heritage sub) and are 13 miles from the airport. This is great cuz our extended family lives all over the world and comes to visit often. It takes me 25 minutes to get up to Woodmen Rd (in non-peak times).

I have one child in Eagleside (new school, still smells like carpet and paint) and one in Fountain Middle. I have nothing bad to say about either school. Love the teachers and the staff. Love the afterschool clubs and homework power hour options (the activity bus will bring your child home if they opt to stay after school).

Fountain proper has a library, YMCA and a Splash Pad which is great free fun for toddlers & little kids in the summer. They host parades and events for the different holidays. There's a little park right off 85 with a caboose which my 2 & 5 yr olds LOVE. There are small shops and an espresso bar and we like to go to Pueblo for swimming in the res. during the summer and the drive in too, so we like being on the south end of the Springs.

If you have any more Fountain-centric question, I am more than happy to help.

Colorado Springs.

The further north, the better.

If you're going to live in Fountain, FC, or Widefield, you might as well just live in Pueblo West... imo.

Edit; to bam, it takes me less than an hour to get to the Springs airport and I live about 5 miles south of Hwy 50.

What's FC?

Actually, you would have more space in Pueblo West, the plots are generally larger; you're further from your neighbors AND from stores and the like than if you live in Fountain or Sec/WF. Also, it's going to take longer to drive to the Springs from Pueblo West...

Proximity to the airport is a nice thing about living in Security - literally less than 10 minutes, closer to 5.

If it's 10 min to CoS and 45 min to Pueblo West, why do you recommend living in PW?

I think McGowdog is trying to say that Pueblo West is better/nicer/more desirable a place to live than Fountain, FC (Carson?) or Sec/WF, in his opinion. Just a guess.
