thinking of relocating to Colorado Springs
We are looking at possibly relocating to Colorado Springs w/in the next 2 months. My husband would work downtown and would love a halfway decent commute if it's possible.
Where are the best (affordable) areas to live? We could afford maybe $250-300. We have 3 children, 11yrs, 7yrs & 5 yrs, so of course schools are important. Our youngest is a young 5, and so in a pre-k program now.
Thanks for any info

Look at D20 school district. The drive is not bad, especially since the I-25 freeway construction is close to being completed.

Thank you to both of you! :)
I've been lurking here for a few days and remember reading about Briargate. How long of a commute to downtown would it be on a "typical" day. (if there is one of course! )
Always a good sign that construction is almost complete!
Thanks again!

Depending on how far you are from the I-25 and what time of day you commute anywhere from 20 to 40 minutes.
Here's a link with traffic cams along the route (it hasn't been working lately though for some reasons...)
Hispania News : Cámaras de Tránsito en Colorado Springs - Traffic Cams in Colorado Springs
Now this one works except you have to click on each individual cam. The link above had all the cams on one page.

For me, the commute is 20-30 minutes from the vicinity of Powers Blvd and Old Ranch Rd. From Briargate it would be about the same, maybe 2-3 minutes less. Though retired, I've driven it during morning drive time and found it no big deal. There is traffic, but nothing like what I lived with for 31 years in the DC area, which truly is among the nation's worst. IMO, commuting around COL SPGS is not an issue unless someone wants to live way out of town.
