Default Please help school dist questions

Hi there everyone and yes that means you too Mike from the East.

I had some quick questions about school districts. I have 2 children 6 and 3 and we are seriously considering a move to the Springs. We have already researched some school districts and "Academy" seems to be a good choice and close to where I would most likely work. Ideally we would like to have the kids go to a specific elementary school "Academy International" or something like that. However, I read a note about CO laws allow people to pick any school so my question is.

Is there a way to guarantee enrollment at a specific public elem school? Here in MN you are placed based on geography so if you buy a house in a certain neighborhood your kids will automatically go to a specific school.

Obviously we don't want to base our house buying on false assumptions.

Thanks,

Open-enrollment in Colorado means a student can attend any school in any district that will accept them. Different districts have different rules about how the acceptance process works. Most choose students by lottery, but have different criteria for each round of the lottery. Some preferences (by no means all of them) are: sibling in a school, parents who are on the board of a charter school (for charters), proximity to parents' work, etc. Some schools are closed to open enrollment b/c they are full. So to answer your question, no, there is no way to guarantee your child's placement at any school other than their neighborhood school. I would take up Charles' advice and call the schools you are interested in.

Default excellent schools in District 38

We moved to the Monument area north of Co Spgs two years ago and couldn't be happier with our District 38 schools. District 38 is adjacent to District 20, so would be near where you are looking. Parts of the Black Forest area go to 38, other parts go to 20. Both school districts are award-winning with high achieving schools. The official website is Untitled if you want to check it out.
One caveat to moving to this area - check out the HOA carefully before you buy. Visit their website, google the HOA name, search the newspaper archives at Gazette.com: Home. You'll be glad you did. Ours is involved in several lawsuits, buyer beware!
Good luck!
