That's it, I'm placing some red wine right by my bed tonight with

There was even an article in The Gazette about them...hard for me to believe
no one has a secret weapon...a friend downtown got 11 in a day... just had one fly behind
my reading glasses.
Turns out Earl Grey Tea is a winner., they love to fly into that..the wine,as the paper suggested,
doesn't work so well.
No friends in Chey Canon have them.Hmm.

Are you sure you don't have gnats, instead? Gnats go for people's faces, especially the eyes. They come from the soil in houseplants. Often times, they're already in the soil of a plant you buy from Home Depot, King Soopers, Safeway, Loew's, etc. They're extremely common. They thrive in moist houseplant soil. They go after light, too, like computer screens, TV's, etc., not necessarily lamps. You can buy Raid House & Garden and spray it on the potting soil in the plants pretty heavily and it won't hurt the plants. (says so on the front of the can) The gnats will scatter, but they'll eventually die. Raid is also safe on veggie seedlings you start indoors in case your bag of potting soil has gnats. They are most active in late fall and winter.....good luck!

I think I know what you're talking about - but I don't have many around right now - just seen a few. However, I know that whenever I do see a pickup of them, it is because of something I brought into the house - produce, a plant, cut flowers, etc.

I have very few flies here ,I maintain bird feeders which keep the little birds around and very busy .
You would think with chickens ,their poo would draw tons of flies as well as having horses on either side of me . the chickens love flies as well, so between the small birds and the chickens flying any thing are very rare around here.
I do have spiders but only rarely ,because of the birds .
When I first came it was very different with out the birds ,so thankful for them.
I hate chemicals.

Yeah, if they're fruit flies, they won't be in your bedroom and near you, unless you have food sources in your bedroom or in your living room. The best way to get rid of fruit flies is to be meticulously clean about food sources. No fruit on the counter, clean up after meals immediately, and keep the drain closed.

We have a parrot who eats grapes, so we frequently get fruit flies around the grape dish. In Maryland, it was insane. No problems, here.
