Does anyone even know that Ragain Sports is starting a USL PRO soccer team in the Springs! The owner announced it the same day that they presented the C4C proposal to the board. He said he wanted to have them in the downtown stadium, but they'll play at the SandCreek stadium for the first year or two. Also the downtown stadium will have a 3,000 capacity indoor facility and a 10,000 seat outdoor stadium.
Personally I'm all for this as I think this will help revitalize the least attractive part of downtown and may actually give me a reason to go downtown for fun. Also I'm quite surprised by the how small the Springs skyline is, I would've thought that for a city of this size it would be taller.

LOL.
Metallica, for when you want to hear some uncreative minds complain about people downloading music.

You're great sonic, but you gave me a good case of the LOL when you mentioned Metallica. They were big like what, 12 years ago?

I'd drive in for some of the games, but I'm a soccer fan. Division 3? Come on, I'd try and bump that up.

But it's still possible for a Div. 3 team to go up to Div. 2 or even 1; Orlando City Soccer Club did exactly this, will be going from USL PRO to MLS (Div. 3 to 1).

LOL I know...not a big fan myself, I was just reaching for some kind of arena band. The stuff I'm into pretty much never plays the big arenas except as part of a much bigger festival thing. As 'tarded as they might have become, everybody's heard of Metallica. They still play arenas. But I don't know who attends, because most everyone I know has shunned them since the days following the Black Album...

Iron Maiden is an exception, we saw them last fall in KC and that was amazeballz. Openers Megadeth were, however, about as sad as Metallica are these days. Mustaine is a whiny little girly man. So not metal...

Point was...if you're gonna build a stadium, using public funds, ya gotta think about what exactly we're gonna do with it once it's there. I don't think that sports are necessarily enough to justify it even in big cities with big sports teams they try to do other things with arena venues. I guess maybe it will host really, really big gun shows? Circus and rodeo? Or...what?

Default Tejon Street

Why not have Tejon Street be a mall without cars? From Pikes Peak Ave to a street south; can't we walk a block to clear up a street? I can see the street in the summer days and other nice days, people just enjoying the shops and cafes; there is a park, too!!! Would be so nice to sit at one of the patios without smelling gas fumes.................my pipe dream..

How about better bus service....City of Champions, we need to enjoy what we have while building for the future!

If he gave up parking but retained profit from concessions he would probably at least break even. Several studies showed that minor league ball parks in central locations tend to lead to a slight increase in attendance. The Sky Sox tend to draw less than 4500 per game, a very small number for a AAA team. Colorado Springs commissioned a study that indicated this number could eventually reach 6000 over 5 or so years based on data collected from similar cities where similar projects occurred. It seems to me giving up parking for more tickets is a smart move. You only get to charge by the car, but with tickets you can charge by the person.

I'll look for that study and post it if I can find it.

Molly- I wouldn't be surprised if that happens. Didn't they cut off Pikes Peak Ave between Tejon and Nevada last year to see how that would go? (Though I thought it seemed silly, as while there's a bunch there- Springs Orleans, La Baguette, Josh and Johns, the theater... it's all on one side of the street!)

I like what you said, and the 16th Street Mall comes to mind while thinking about it. IMO the awful thing about the springs is that it's the largest city in CO by area (194.7 sq. miles) but second largest by populous. Because of how spacious and populated the city is there is a demand for public transportation, but because most of the springs is spread out and not up Metro may not find it profitable to service the larger area or service the current areas more often. All big cities will build up at some point, usually it's the more the city can build out the shorter its skyline tends to be (Co Springs, Los Angeles) and conversely the more outwardly constricted it is the taller its skyline (Denver, New York) so depending on whether we go up instead of going outward we should look at how others cities (with lots of land) handle public transportation.

I was just talking about this concept today. Boulder's pedestrian mall is great.
