Thanks Klawed! District 20 has a lottery? District 12 is first come, first serve, right? April 1st applications are submitted and the 1st submissions get 1st priority? Are the recruiting rules so strict that contact with the team/coach is prohibited? We might be coming that way for a house hunting trip so if we can we though we might schedule a couple sit downs with coaches and school tours. Would we be prohibited from contacting HS coaches?

Are you sure about that April 1st date? The choice window in D11 has been open since November and closes this week!

I think each district must be different... The April 1st is what is on the District 12 website.

Klawed, do you have a swimmer on Falfins? Any experience with Coach Stromberg? I'd love to get some parents' opinions on the program.

Yes, do you have specific questions? My daughter was on the CMA dive team for a few years. I wasn't overly impressed.

My kids attend The Classical Academy-no swim team. We were really hoping they could swim for Air Academy as we really liked Scott Newell's coaching philosophy. However, we were assigned Discovery Canyon.

I was disappointed initially but my children have thrived on DCCs teams and I do especially like the boy's coach. It's a perfect fit for my son.

CMHS has gone downhill the past couple years. I would choose any of the D-20 schools above CM.

Klawed, it doesn't look like CMA has a dive team anymore…maybe it dissolved. Did you have any experience with Joe Novak as the swim coach? How has CMHS gone down hill? Academically? I saw the news article about the math teacher arrested. I am a little worried about elitist attitudes and kids with access to too much money at CMHS…we are solidly middle class (military) family and I want our kids to fit in, etc. Our son would probably prefer Air Academy as they have a JROTC program. Thanks!!!

I have some experience with CMHS academics. There are a lot of nice kids there but it can be tough for an 'average' kid or 'average' income family. It is expected that you have money there, and at times it can be cliquish. The academics are good - but that has a lot to do with the kids who show up (and their families) - more so than the programs or teachers at the school. They're fine, but no better than anywhere else in the city, honestly. It sounds like Air Academy may be a better fit for you.
