I'm just curious about the aviation community in and around Colorado Springs. I'm a pilot (for a living) and am always interesting in local aviation events, clubs, etc. Anybody have some general information? The extent of my aviation involvement so far is eating at "The Airplane Restaurant" a few times

There was a huge contingent of airplane enthusiasts at the Cool Science fair at Colorado College- looking online, Pikes Peak Soaring Society and a couple others were there.

There's the Pike's Peak Regional Air show and the Colorado Balloon Classic. Not sure about the dates. The Thunderbirds also perform at the Academy in May. The day before graduation is practice and then again on graduation day. There are aviation museums at COS and another at PUB. If you have clearance to enter the Academy, there is a veiwing area just west of the airfield. On a good day, you can watch gliders being towed aloft, gliders landing, fixed wing (Cirrus SR20's), Twin Otters hauling jumpers, and the jumpers themselves. All going on at the same time. During football season, the performance jump team(forgot what they're called) can be seen practicing. There are numerous events in the Denver area too.
