Best Martial Arts Schools
Hello,
I have 3 boys who are ADHD and their 4,5 & 8. They will most likely be tall and skinny/medium build when they grow up since their dad is that way. I'm looking to get them in Martial Arts but want them to go to a school that cares about teaching them rather than one of those blackbelt factory schools. I want them to learn discipline, respect, self control, self defense and a school that allows them to compete/sparr if they choose to. I live in the southern part of the Colorado Springs and the schools that are near me is Black Lotus Shaolin Kung Fu Studio, Tiger George's Tae kwon do, Won's Te Kwon Do, Defense Institute, & Nam's Oriental Martial Arts. I willing to drive if there is a better school available. I'm also looking for a good Tai Chi Class and my husband wants to get in a type of martial arts that will get him in shape. Any advice on martial arts schools in Colorado Springs would be appreciated.
Thanks
Suzanna

My daughter has been trying out classes at this place.
ColoradoFightFactory.com - Home
In the few classes she has attended they have learned some judo, wrestling and Brazilian Jui-Jitsu. They are really nice about letting kids try out the classes before you make any decisions.

Hey there-
I would suggest Universal Kempo Karate Schools. We taught karate for many years with this program. They have been around in Colorado Springs for 20+ years. They have schools all over the Springs area. They teach defense, discipline, respect, grappling (sp?). Your child can participate in tournaments IF they want to. When we were instructors, we saw many of our kids grades and views on life change for the better. Just look them up in the phone book. Or you can pm me and I will give the information. We do not train anymore, different chapter in life, but would recommend them still.

Good luck finding a school. I recommend avoiding any schools that insist upon a long term contract. Here is an alternative suggestion to investigate.

Hey there, I work in the video game store right next to the Black Lotus Kung Fu studio, and my younger brother studied there for several years. Sifu Jeff Crenshaw is one of the most patient and masterful martial arts instructors you could hope for, and the studio is an excellent one for young boys with ADHD or other attention-span problems. The studio also offers a Tai Chi class, which you said you would also be interested in.
The Black Lotus indeed fulfills all of the items which you noted to be important, and I and my family would definitely highly recommend you try that one. They offer the first two or three classes for free, so you can attend those before you decide whether or not to go with that studio. I myself took a couple of classes there, but do not currently have time to attend, as they start at 5:30 or 6:30 (depending on the class and the day) and I am not off from work until 7:30 most days.

Dear Suzanna,
Try out Universal Kempo Karate Schools. They've been in business 41 years and really focus on respect, confidence, self discipline and self defense. You can visit [url=http://www.KempoColorado.com]to find a school close to you.
Thanks,
Teri

Don't know if you are still looking for a school or not, but my kids train at Family Karate Blanco and N. Carefree. They teach traditional Japanese Karate and we really love the school, precisely for the things you are looking for. The quality of teaching is really high and Shihan Jay Haynes is very passionate about making sure he does not run what he calls a "McDojo". Plus the cost is very affordable for us; they have family rates, and the more in your family train, the less it costs. I highly recommend checking them out.

Pai Lum (WHITE DRAGON)
There are four white Dragon schools in Northern Colorado, one (or 2) in Denver. As far as traditional family style training goes, I couldn't expect much more within the US. I miss training with them since I moved further west. All 4 Schools operate under Sifu Galliano, who was a live-in student of Daniel K Pai, (Grand-master Pai). The 4 schools are like a family, and were some of the best people I met in Colorado.
