What are some inexpensive or free things to do with kids in Colorado Springs? We've walked through Garden of the Gods many times. What are other family-friendly things to do?

Go hiking at Red Rocks, Cheyenne Mountain State Park (small admission fee), Spruce Mountain, Fox Run, go to the Pioneer Museum, bike on the Santa Fe Trail, check out and sample all the springs in Manitou,

Right now I only have a 1 year old, but I'm also looking for activities to do with friends who have children (most are pre-school age or under).

Focus on the Family's play area (includes a toddler room)
Colorado Fine Arts Center (on a free day--see their calendar--they have a "touchable art" room for kids to explore)
Ute Valley Park/Playground

Check out Trekaroo's website for a bunch of family activities in Colorado, as well.

The Bear Creek Nature Center has a variety of programs for preschool children, and there are some very short trails around the center to introduce children that age to hiking. It's probably a bit too much for a 1-year-old, but some of the longer hiking trails in Bear Creek park are also suitable for pushing along a child in a jogging stroller. Ditto for Red Rocks park.

First - Public Library summer reading programs and story times and free movies for kids too - definitely get to know what is going on at your library.

Second - get to know what is going on at the Fountain and Bear Creek Nature Centers - lots of programs for kids.

Third - parks - we have a lot of them - some with playgrounds, etc., some more for nature exploration/biking/hiking.
