According to today's "The Gazette", Tre Coggins will transfer out of AFA at the end of the semester.

Yeah. Sad news for AF hoops fans.

Cadets incur a military commitment, beginning with the start of their Junior year. Basically, you can quit the Academy without penalty for your first two years, but after that, you're going in to the Air Force. If you haven't graduated, you're going in as an enlisted member.

That's a tough commitment for a 19-year-old kid to make. For many Cadets, the quality of the education can't be beat, and to go to another school would cost a lot more to receive a lot less. For others, the allure of the cockpit (or other AF career fields) is motivation enough. But for a starting intercollegiate athlete, the decision is tougher still. He'll get a full ride elsewhere, with no strings attached. And, wherever he winds up, they won't expect him to take Aeronautical Engineering, EE, Astronautical Engineering, march to lunch, shine his shoes, etc.

I wish he would have stayed, but understand the decision. I'll wish him well.
