Default I can do that

Funny thing, as late as Monday evening the TV weather reports were calling for typical mild low to mid sixty's all week. Then last night the forecast changed. Right now it's 48, overcast, headed for 62 degrees. Even so, with the chance of blizzard conditions in some parts, they are calling for 44 degrees on Thursday.

I'll try and get pix. Meanwhile, I did video's of horses in a field behind our home, 5-12MB in size, see them at:

We live on the south end of Parker and the NWS and local TV is calling for a pretty nasty snowstorm to hit us later tonight and tomorrow. Winds up to
41 mph and upwards of 12 inches of snow (or more) . We could have some snow drifts there are pretty high with 41 mph winds. If the weather is to bad in the morning where I live.......I call work for a "snow day" and get the old snow blower started up. We live right on that Palmer Divide.
We will see what happens.

Thanks for the videos, that would be so neat to see in person. I'm a weather buf and I love to see a good storm...

Accuweather is trying to compare this upcoming storm to the blizzard of 1997 when denver got 21 inches of snow.....

http://wwwa.accuweather.com/news-summary.asp?

If you get a snow day, please post a pic as it will be over 80 degress here tomorrow....

I'll get pix if I can. The horses were real frisky that day, the snow melted quickly, I never shoveled a thing, sun burned it off by noon the next day. I too like to see mother nature bare her teeth once in a while, within reason. A good blustery cloudy fall day is one of my favorites.

As of 1PM today its 65 and sunny, men are jogging bare chested in shorts.

Looking forward to some snow tomorrow. I'll hit the wine shop today and stock up a few labels.

LoveBoating may get a bit more, as he's up on the Palmer Divide, an odd geological feature that runs east-west rather than north-south like the Front Range (aka I-25 corridor). He's another thousand feet higher than us here at 6500 feet. The divide has a way of blocking some weather so that sometimes it keeps the weather on whichever side it's coming from. For the event predicted tonight it won't matter too much.

The tough spot locally will be where I-25 goes up Monument Hill, btw exits 161 and 163. Here, they talk in terms of the snow line, and will often give weather reports that the snow line is at, say, 7500 feet, which means rain generally below 7500 feet and snow generally above 7500 feet. Thus, elevation means more snow here.

s/Mike

If you live in the south end of Parker you are not near the Palmer Divide....sorry.

Anyhow, it's 1:19 am and it's 36° F at my home, Briargate of Colorado Springs.

Only rain has hit us. If the "blizzard" is to hit it's much warmer than it was in March of 2003 or Oct of 1997...yes I was in the both those storms.

I am not to say that it wont hit us but hour by hour it's seemingly less and less an option. A lifetime resident of CO, it may hit with some vengance but it's pretty weak so far despite the warnings and watches.

However, if the Low stays in the Alequerque (sp) area, we are in for some interesting weather thanks to that...so far, not so good.

I can only hope to wake up to some massive snow storm as I miss it all since the blizzard of March 2003: http://www.users.qwest.net/~niki1968/images/snow32003.jpg (broken link) That's about 10:30 am or so when the snow started to melt. But dang that sucked to dig out.

Wish I had photos from Oct. 1997. That was some fun stuff.

So did it skip you guys? So often the media plays it up, then the storm fails to materialize.

October can produce snow.

I remember the '97 storm. Denver was paralyzed. There was the big deal about the Broncos getting on their flight, but everyone else stuck in town.

There was quite a Denver storm in '96 (October) as well, with a huge traffic pileup on I-25.

October 15 1984 was the Bronco Blizzard. The one where the snow was flying during the Broncos game (a nationally televised game.) We got a foot.
It sucked for people who garden, but was great for the ski industry.

And there was the infamous Christmas Blizzard of '82. Two feet of snow.

But the March 2003 storm produced an incredible amount of the white stuff, something like 3 feet in places. We have some amazing pictures of that storm, but unfortunately that was before we got a digital camera.

It is 6:45 AM here at our house in south Parker. When I got up at 5:15, it was really snowing/blowing snow. I could hardly even see the house across the street from ours. At 5:45 AM, the snow and wind did taper off, so I decided to "venture" out and see how things were. I was gone for 5 minutes and now I'm back at the house. How was it.......one word BAD!!!!!!! I couldn't even make it down to Parker Road (main street going thru Parker). I had the Durango in 4-wheel drive and hit the brakes softly, but still slid four times and the one time almost wound up in the middle of Parker Road. Right now, 6:52 AM, the wind is really blowing and heavy snow is flying sideways. Neither the wife or I are going to work in these conditions. Just not safe enough for us. Well, we were told that we could get "hit" and we are getting "hit" for sure. Definitely blizzard type of conditions at our house. After the sun comes up, I will try and take a few photos and post them. But, since people can not post photos in this Forum, where do you do it???
