Is traffic bad because of sprawl, accidents, roads poorly designed or poorly maintained? Is there any news of this being resolved?
Construction on I-25 has recently wrapped up, but it did cause a lot of issues while it was going on. Since then I have seen a major improvement. There are a couple of other big projects going on right now Woodmen & Powers intersection as well as Austin Bluffs & Union. I would stay clear of those if possible until construction has been completed.

Smoking is illegal in restaurants in my state, how is it in CoS, any exceptions, bars, partial bar/restaurant? (I am a non-smoker that hates smoke)
As of 1/1/08 there is no smoking allowed in casino's either, but I believe the vast majority of ours are located up in Cripple Creek or in Blackhawk. As far as bars go I believe they have to make a certain percentage of their profits from food before they have to be non smoking. All other establishments such as bingo halls, restaurants, stores are non smoking (with the exception of cigar bars & the smoking lounge at DIA)

Verizon cellphone service is questionable? (IMPORTANT, I am a verizon user) I have Verizon also & have no problems with it 98% of the time. There are a couple of dead spots up in the Rockrimmon area of Co Spgs, but other than that it is great.

Pothole problems? (why such a problem?)
Potholes in the spring/early summer are always an issue just due to the freeze & thaw process through out the winter. They usually do a pretty good job of getting them fixed up though. I think there is a number you can call to report a bad one if it hasn't been fixed for a while.

Haloween and Trick or Treat are discouraged???
I have never heard of such a thing! I always see tons of tricker treaters out every year.

Hope this helps.

Kelly

Who ever told you some of these things is not being truthful
Halloween is not discouraged, we had almost 100 kids last year
we moved here from Iowa and pay half of the property taxes, make higher incomes, and love the weather! is there stuff sure but there is everywhere, we even had homeless in the park in a town of 20,000 in iowa
I think almost all groups, political, social, sexual orientation, religious, recreational are representated here. If you are trying to bring your culture from your present home town-we have that here too. Most states have their own "club" and most sports teams have "support clubs" so it won't feel so totally different. best advice about commuting-try to live close to work or work close to home, and find the short cuts. i have spent no time in bumper to bumper traffic and live 5 miles from work on a major thru street. there are lots of places for recreation, if you think Aspen or Vail are the only places to ski you will be surprised by the choices but if you want to be close-the cost of living up there is astronomical so live here and drive some
you should have no trouble finding a home in your price range but look closely too many homes here are still over-priced and realtors use scare tactics so use the internet to search for homes you want to look at and stick to your list of necessaries-good luck and happy moving-maybe even wlecome to "The Springs"!

Colorado Springs is one of, if not the most beautiful place(s) on earth. IMO it is a "secret" because everyone has these preconceptions about it: the snow, religious factions, political views...from my experience the place is just awesome.

Thumbs up Job Security

Since you can read and write in english you should have no issues with finding a job.

We have many immigrants that speak read or write english (as second language) and they find work here in Springs just fine. I see many have opened their own businesses.

You should always visit prior to making a big move. Me personally I have used taxes as my deciding reason as to retire to COS.
Big-city taxes - Apr. 12, 2006

Over the long haul that can effect your QOL the greatest. Someone had posted something about home prices ealier it's true you can still find housing under 350K here in the city a big plus.

Try to read as many post that you can that are written by "Mike from Back East" He can write a book on the Springs. His veiws do have a slant but he does not exagerate.

Best of luck to you.
