I'm new to Colorado Springs and this will be my first fall/winter here. I'm not sure what to wear to be comfortable in this city, in this weather. I am a woman, 44, and I'm completely thrown off on what to wear.

I dress in layers. T-shirt with a vest/sweatshirt/long sleeved shirt, etc. The weather changes so quickly and it seems to always vacillate between just warm enough to not need something long sleeved to just cool enough to warrant it, so I dress in layers all the time.

Course one winter it was extremely cold and I wore long-johns under all my pants!

You dress for the high temperature of the day, and then bring layers for the low temperature of the day. Usually you'll start out with all your layers and have none of them left by late afternoon unless some kind of front is going through, and then have them all back on by late night.

Rosie, the weather varies day to day, part of the charm. Usually, no matter the temps, the air is dry / low humidity. If you stay near home, just stick your head out the door and dress accordingly. Layers work fine for most people.

There's a nice upside to this, you get to go SHOPPING for clothes! Yaaaay!

My year-round uniform is a short-sleeved shirt topped by a cardigan or athletic jacket. In colder weather, a coat will go along in the car, but it usually won't be worn.

Yup, layers are the way to go. If you're going just from car to store, etc at midday, you don't need more than some sort of sweater/sweatshirt/fleece and lightweight jacket you can put on over that. If you're spending more time outside, you'll probably want a ski jacket type thing and maybe long underwear if it's really cold. You'll want a warm hat and gloves/mittens. BTW, it's better to wear/bring more layers than you think you need than to end up with hypothermia because it got cold/snowy all of a sudden and you didn't have enough warm clothes.
