Exclamation Visiting Colorado Springs - Places to stay?

Hi, I'm planing a trip our to Colorado in June and will be staying in Colorado Springs for 3 days and I know there are some areas that aren't the best there. I was wondering if anyone had any hotel suggestions or areas of the city that would be best to look for a hotel? I'm looking for something between $90 and $150 per night. I know there are a lot of hotels over by the airport but I'm not sure how the area is. One place I found that I was thinking about is the Homewood Suites off of Zeppelin Road by the airport, how is that area?

I have stayed there off an on for several weeks when I moved to Colorado in June 2006. Nothing wrong with the neighborhood. No plane noise. This Homewood Suites is fairly new. Free beer and wine and mini-dinner, breakfast, free high speed internet.

There's also a Homewood Suites off Briargate Parkway near the I-25. Basically the same type of hotel: lots of free stuff.

Here are the Residence Inns and Homewood Suites in town. Try the HS near Briargate and I-25. I stayed there on my house hunting trip. I have stayed at all of the HS and RI in COS except the one on Academy. They are all fine.

Since the visit is in June and is a 'fun' trip, suggest look at places in Manitou Springs, a fun walkable funky artsy fartsy place with tons of eateries and shops that sits at the base of Pikes Peak. Safe and probably affordable.

You'll still be less than 10 minutes from I-25, and if you want to go up into the mountains to Cripple Creek (gambling and tourist attractions) then you are well placed for that. Also puts you near Garden of the Gods, Cave of the Winds, off roading in Pike National Forest, cog railway to top of Pikes Peak and lots of other things to do. See the Photo Tour of Manitou Springs at the top of the list in this forum for pix of the town.....

For your price range, you should have no problem reserving a room at any number of the nicer hotels in Colorado Springs, even during June, which is at the front of the higher priced tourist season. Having lived here for 30+ years, can say that there are very few areas in town that I would not feel safe staying within.

The Homewood Suites you mention is certainly in an OK area, but is a little remote from restaurants, attractions, and the like, but assume you will have car, so should not be a problem. While once there was one single hotel in that "airport area" there are currently, including that Homewood Suites, now probably now a dozen. If you want an area that contains a number of nicer hotels, and is close to many restaurants, a mall, and I-25 access, I would suggest the north part of town, which is convenient to I-25. You will have a choice, among others, of a Homewood Suites, Embassy Suites, and Hilton Garden Inn (have hosted classmates for a reunion there twice).
