Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions for good local restaurants to eat at in the colorado springs area. I would like to stay under $50 for a couple.

I've only visited the Springs twice, but when we came out last spring the realtor recommended the Famous downtown. Amazing steak dinner! A little more than $50 per couple tho-more like $125 with appetizer and wine-but a memorable experience, that's for sure!

Food here is weridly good for as small a "city" we are.
A good bison meal can be had at the big and famous Ted's Montana. Under $50? yeah if you don't drink. Mission Bell Inn possibly another place (it's up in Manitou and rarely featured here) that is not well known. In the need for a bit of Italian, check out Roman Villa on Fillmore and Nevada. Seriously, this is a place not that many in the C Springs area know about unless they have lived here for ages. I've been going there since I was a baby and I am close to 40 now. Everything is homemade...enjoy their salad best salad dressing around. They tried to sell it in the local grocery stores but apparently it didn't go over well, regardless, very good place to have pasta or a pizza...whatever floats your boat. In the mood for some fast food? Both Louie's Pizza and La Casita are excellent to fill that bill. Perhaps you want some chinese food, the China Bistro on Briargate (I hope it's still there) across from Chapel Hills Mall is really good. I haven't been there in a while but I am jonesing for their egg foo yo(u)ng. Despite Colorado Springs being a chain restaruant kind of place, we really have some hidden jems. I hope that more people seek out the local restaurants to keep them alive. OH, I almost forgot, Adams Mountain Cafe up in Manitou as well. They are a restaurant with a heart here, most everything they offer is either vegetarian or organic. Their tea is worth its weight in gold...the spiced tea that is. so very good. OH, for a fun breakfast, The Omelette Parlor on Fillmore. Another place where organic if loved. Their partners next door O'Furries make the best bloody marys in the state. Trust me on this. A Sunday at The Omlette Parlor without O'Furry's Bloody Mary is a not a Sunday. Outside of those, eh, Gunther Toody's offers a good burger as does Ruby's on Powers...I like Gunther TOody's better because they are a local company - well local to Colorado. Hope that helps! I am starving thinking about all the culinary goodies we have here in the Springs. I forgot, there are good restaurants in Old Colorado City too like Henri's, etc...I also like, but it's not authentic, Señor Manuel's on Nevada, another family owned restaurant. Once you get past the 70s style of the decor, you can enjoy the food. It's nicely priced and the people that work there are very nice too. I held a gathering there of Live Journal people back in June or July and for the most part, all agreed, it was good food for the price.. I ended up bringing a ton of food home. We're heading to Plate World Cuisine off Briargate Parkway tonight. Anyone tried it? They have a seared tuna plate that looks good.

Ouch. That place was expensive. (Why is it expensive restaurants serve half size portions?). The food was good but they were out of the seared tuna.
Good thing we had a 2 for 1 coupon. (You can get them from the entertainment book website, 14 day trial/email address). |

Even pricier is the Penrose Room at the Broadmoor, French style, but without the classic snooty French waiters. Small portions. Exquisite food. I believe a 3 course prix fixe meal is $62 each, plus wine & dessert. Worth it for special occasions. Great views of the city or mountains. |

I love Mona Lisa Fondue restaurant in Manitou Springs. Yes, we did the traditional 4 course fondue meal and that's wayyyyy too much food for us (not to mention quite pricey, but exquisitely good). Now we go downstairs to their "Wine Cellar" which requires NO reservations, and just get the regular swiss fondue and a chocolate fondue and two glasses of wine. That's under $50.00 (tip may push it just over $50).
