Strange question, I know... It's not for my own self, so please just bear with me…

I have come into contact with an older gentleman (late 50's, not that that's "OLD") who is trying to rebuild his life after some years of hard times. He's living in a van north of town and is doing ok, but sometimes feels pretty low due to his current circumstances. One of the things he thinks may help a little is a relatively clean and dignified place to shower and otherwise get a little break. I suggested joining the Y here in Monument, but would welcome any other suggestions.

Also, he has admitted that what would help the most is some regular work to help him become less dependent on social services, etc. The problem is that he's had hip replacement surgery so his mobility is fairly limited. His background is in upholstery and I've given him a few 'trial' jobs like pulling weeds and cutting grass in a nearby park and he's seemed really willing and grateful to work hard for some fair pay. The problem is that those sort of jobs are pretty limited by our local weather and my own budget. So again, any add'l suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Exactly, the local Y. I've been to that one in year's past to do voter registrations. I wish him better times.

Thanks, yes, I think that's his best bet, it's a really nice facility to boot with a whole wellness venter being annexed to it now. The biggest help will be work, so if anyone has ideas around that… Unfortunately I'm in no position to employ him much myself these days, but he is good for odd jobs around town.

If the Y doesn't work out, they have showers at the truck stop on Baptist Road, as well.
As for work, not really the best city for it. He could try the staffing agencies, such as Remedy.

Great responses...the churches are great for helping in these situations.
A church in N. COS bought a NICE luxury van from me I gave away for $900 to them...
just for a couple sleeping in their parking lot in a beatup junker.
They had heat that cold winter night....yay! And very dark tinted windows.

The CONOCO station on 105 in Monument has showers but you need to pay for them.
