Our girls went to school in District 49 for two years. We were so unhappy we decided to move and build in District 20. The D49 teachers were great but the school board is fractured and they have no real sense of direction, parental communication is lacking, they have cut back on PE and other things we feel are essential and their handling of our special needs child's IEP/504 plan was the worst we experienced in three states. My best friend's daughter just graduated from a D49 middle school a few weeks ago and from what I have heard all year nothing has changed. Our girls have loved their D20 school and have really flourished here.

I have no other school districts to compare to. It has been hit or miss with teachers. I have an IEP child and was frustrated in elementary school, but it's been better in middle school. I think they are making great progress with parent communication, technology, and trying to follow common core standards. There has been plenty I don't agree with there but I think they have been doing some trial and error within different schools, scheduling, etc. I think they struggle with needing more funding because of so much growth and some over crowding. I'm not so displeased that I'm willing to move them to another district.

I've had no problems with D49 schools...actually, both of my daughters have done quite well in D49 schools. My oldest graduated Vista Ridge 3 years ago...she loved it and did extremely well. Got a 32 ACT and off to Colorado State she went. She just graduated from CSU a few weeks ago...1 year early and graduated C u m Laude. My youngest will graduate from Vista Ridge early and she'll be heading to Florida to continue her education.

I've had a great relationship with many of the teachers and haven't had any issues at all.

Good luck!

I teach in D49. I think the teachers there are terrific and if the teacher is underperforming, principals will try to get rid of that teacher.

However, the elementary schools are bursting, especially the ones in the Falcon area and Indigo Ranch. The school district cannot keep up with the amount of families moving into the area and the home building. In my school, we have 700 students. As a result, they only receive music, art, PE, etc... once a week.
