So, Penrose/St. Francis is proposing to build a new hospital at Centennial and Fillmore.

Why? That's so close to Penrose.

What am I missing?

There are a lot of old hospitals that aren't around anymore or serve other purposes now - the one I was born in, for example -- perhaps Penrose is getting outdated?

That is a possibility, although considering significant recent building at the site makes we wonder. They certainly have a huge parking problem.

A new V.A. facility opened at that location last year, 3141 Centennial Blvd.

Yes, and there's also a senior assisted living facility going in directly across from Coronado.
